Default Rebuilt Motor - Bogs down and dies. HELP!

Just finished rebuilding my motor got new pistons and all new bearings, gasket set. I checked all hoses and they seem to be routed correctly. All connectors are connected and fairly certain in the right place, there isnt many places they could go. First time I started it, it started right up and sounded great though it had a really weird idle (it jumped from 1500 rpm to 2500rpm quickly). I realized I forgot to adjust valve lash so I did and I started it and the idle jumping went away but I heard a weird clattering sound under the car in the exhuast so I shut it off (no cat on the car). I went to start it again and it just puffed a couple times and died. Checked timing and it is good. Timing belt looks a bit loose though. Should i be able to push it back and forth from the cam gear? What do I look for next?

Also, the SRS light came on too and when it bogged down the battery light blinked quickly. (fixed srs before engine build) Battery seems to be okay. And there was a slight ticking coming from the valve cover but I think all d16s have a slight tick

Started it again today and found the Speedo went way up to 40 mph when I hit the gas so I **** it off. So the vss is moving. I have the clutch down the whole time because there is no shift linkage in the car right now. And I also replaced the input shaft bearing in the transmission during the rebuild. I.have no idea what gear it is in so maybe that is the problem? Though with the clutch in it shouldn't engage the fl
ywheel so idk. Any advice?

Only adjust vavle lash on ice cold motors.
Also wat did u adjust it to?
On the speedometer is the axle popped out?
And check for vacuum leaks. And tighten up the timing belt.

Ok I think I figured it out. Had to start it with a charge and when we took it off the srs light went off and it ran great. Traced it to the battery and noticed the end of the ground wire was tearing off. so that would explain the light coming on and rapid Speedo and dying. I'll fix the terminal tomorrow and post if it solved the problem or not
