Icon7 Kingpin Machine Spherical Bearings, Now available at IPG

Kingpin Machine is a racing centric manufacturer/retailer based out of Buford, GA. All of there parts are proudly designed, manufactured, assembled and tested in the United States and utilize only properly graded, US produced metals and synthetics. With primary focus in the design and production of uncompromising components for road race cars. They machine products in small quantities, allowing continuous improvement and instant response to feedback from customers. Here at IPG we will be working to build up our inventory of various cores and ready to bolt spherical bearing configurations, So our customers looking for the ultimate bushing upgrade will have little to no wait or lead time.

From a 1000hp Drag Car, To a SCCA weekend warrior, We can assist you with an upgrade to suit your specific needs. As always feel free to contact me with any application or technical questions you may have.

Installation Service:
When you select Kingpin Machine as your spherical bearing provider you are purchasing a service as much as a product. There are a number of reasons why our experience in assembly can actually save you time and money and more importantly ensure the safety and proper performance of your spherical bearing product.

1. Stock control arms and suspension housings simply are not produced with the same level of precision as our products. There is no reason for auto makers to hold to exacting tolerances when using stock compliant rubber bushings. We produce our bearing sleeves in a range of outside diameters and the proper sleeve is chosen to produce just the right amount of interference when pressed into the control arm. Don’t take chances with “one size fits all” off the shelf solutions. The OD of the sleeves is often quite large to ensure they interference fit in the wide tolerance range of a factory arm. This tends to put undue stress on the control arm and bearing due to the excessive interference; possibly resulting in cracked arms, excessive wearing of the PTFE bearing liner and very high breakaway torque requirements for the bearing ball. Worse yet, a sleeve that does not have enough interference could fail on track. The off the shelf solutions also generally use aluminum bearing sleeves to more easily allow the oversize sleeve to be interference fit to the arm. However, aluminum sleeves can’t be tack welded to the arm and thus have no redundancy protection against failure. The aluminum is also easily galled by the extremely hard steel bearing and of course aluminum is not as strong or as hard as the 4140 steel sleeves we use.

2. Finally, we are hopeless perfectionists. We bead blast and clean all arms after pressing out OEM bushings. Lower control arms are usually shot peened before bead blasting. Our bearing sleeves are then blueprinted to the suspension arms and TIG tack welded in place. Next the arms are sent out to be zinc electroplated for corrosion resistance and a beautiful finish. Finally the bearings are blueprinted to the bearing sleeves to ensure the perfect amount of stiction. Loctite 609 and a c-clip provide additional redundancy in most of our applications.

Here is a preview of what we now have to offer, With the full lineup available on our website here: http://www.ipgparts.com/store/Kingpin-Machine/

DC Integra/EG Civic Spherical Front LCAs

The DC Integra/EG Civic spherical front lower control arm (LCA) conversion utilizes the very high end Aurora Performance Racing Series of bearings. PWB-10T bearings are utilized in the inner pivots and shock mounts. CNC turned 4140 HT steel sleeves are pressed in the LCAs and tig tack welded for redundancy. Bearings are retained via interference and Loctite 609. As always, shoulders are used on the ID and OD of the bearing sleeve to further reduce any chance of disassembly and a c-clip provides additional redundancy in bearing retention. 7075 AL is used for the bearing spacers.

Note that the front LCA conversion does NOT include the compliance bearing conversion. This conversion may be purchased separately and is highly recommended.

Bearing Technical Specifications – Aurora PWB-10T
- Radial Static Limit Load Capacity Lbs: 29,000
- Axial Static Limit Load Capacity Lbs: 6,130

Outlaw Series DC Integra/EG Civic Compliance Bearings

The DC Integra/EG Civic spherical front lower control arm (LCA) conversion utilizes the very high end Aurora Performance Racing Series of bearings. PWB-10T bearings are utilized in the inner pivots and shock mounts. CNC turned 4140 HT steel sleeves are pressed in the LCAs and tig tack welded for redundancy. Bearings are retained via interference and Loctite 609. Kingpin Machine EF Civic/CRX Spherical Rear LCAs

The EF Civic/CRX spherical rear lower control arm (LCA) conversion utilizes the very high end Aurora Performance Racing Series bearings in the shock mounts and the even higher end NHBB bearings in the inner/outer pivots.

The EF Civic rear LCA application also includes delrin shims that install around the forward facing spacers at the inner pivot points. The issue with EF/DA/DC/EG cars when running sphericals is that the rear sway bar will rotate the rear LCA on corner entry until the bearing sleeve contacts the bearing spacer. This causes some strange handling effects and occurs because the rear LCA is not triangulated. ie. There is only one inner pivot point for the rear LCA whereas there are two inner pivot points for the front LCA. Most, if not all, EF/DA/DC/EG rear LCA spherical conversions do not address this issue. Our delrin shims still allow the rear suspension to freely articulate and retain the benefits of very low stiction and deflection that a spherical bearing pivot provides. However, the delrin shims limit the rotation of the LCA to a degree or two while their excellent slip and wear characteristics induce negligible friction/stiction.

Aurora Bearing Technical Specifications – PWB-10T
- Radial Static Limit Load Capacity Lbs: 29,000
- Axial Static Limit Load Capacity Lbs: 6,130

NHBB Bearing Technical Specifications – ABT9
- Radial Static Limit Load Capacity Lbs: 34,800
- Axial Static Limit Load Capacity Lbs: 5,520
