Is a cello compatible with a prelude?
Im 16 and a cellist and Im looking for my first car. Im interested in a 5g prelude but i dont know if my cello will fit. My older brother has a 96 civic ex and he can fit his cello in it, so if any of you have a 5g prelude and/or play cello, let me know.
Thanks,
Caleb C.

I totally did not expect this to be a real thread, you roped me in!
From what I can think of, you would have a tough time of it, unless using the passenger seat laid back for the cello. And you wouldn't be able to carry any passengers. That is if it would fit in through the door.
Honestly for a cello, I would look at a small suv like a 4runner or Cherokee, or maybe something like a Subaru WRX or Legacy wagon, if you want a bit more sporty but utilitarian.

No, No, NO! lol
If you want a car to haul some bulky things around, DO NOT GET A PRELUDE! It is a pain in the *** to move bulky objects, and more then one passenger. You can get some things in but its a hassle to do and forget about trunk space, really. I had room for a printer, some car care stuff, first aid kit in the trunk and that is pretty much it lol. You don't buy a prelude for the roomy interior and storage space.
Just speaking from experience here is all, that's why I later bought an outback for a beater/hauler.

You could fit your Cello in the car with you, but your fellow Cellists will need to find other means.
BUT, most likely you'll beat them in a race, with or without the Cello riding shotty

Prelude thread of the year!
Like others have said, the Prelude is a difficult car to transport solid objects in. It really only does people (and only 2 at that) really well.
I'd look into its cousin the Accord in 4-door or wagon trim for your needs

I have looked at the Accords but i want something more sporty, i would only haul the cello once a week to lessons and occasionally to a concert, and even then i wouldnt have anyone else in the car with me

Get a civic hatchback or a sedan. Lots of storage space when you fold the seats down. Or pick up an Integra, fold down seats and a hatch in the back. Should still be 'sporty' enough for your wants and have the storage you need. Insurance will be a helluva lot cheaper then a 5gen prelude, seeing as how you're 16 it could break you.
Ive moved all kinds of things in my preludes. Take out the passenger and rear seats and there is all kinds of room. If 5th gens are like my 4th gens, only 4 bolts hold the front seats in. Easy and quick to make some space.
Dont listen to the haters, if you want a lude get in one and eyeball the dimensions.

Stick it out the sunroof? I would think a Prelude would have a bit more room than a Civic. As long as you can maneuver it through the door and lay the seat back I would think it would work but it would be a tight fit.

?what what would happen if a prelude screwed a cello, not sure if they are compatible, but you might end up with something fugly like a Pontiac Aztec

No, not really. Civic blows the prelude out of the water in terms of room.
The roof rack idea is honestly the best idea here.
While I have a 2nd Gen, my son's baritone barely fits into the trunk, much less the back seat easily. Like numerous have said, a Civic hatch would be a much more practical vehicle (room, price, insurance, registration, etc). Love'd my 'lude, but my eldest has destroyed it (needs new rear steering rack, good luck on that one, among other items).
Well I used to fit my tuba into my 4G Prelude.... just barely, and once the bell knicked a piece of the vinyl in the passenger door. Cellos are freaking big though, I'd honestly be very careful even test-fitting. Preludes have deceptively little space despite their size.
Not sure if the 5th gens have this, but my 4th gen has one rear seat in the back that folds down. Could probably fit body of cello in trunk with neck sticking in through the rear seats! (And I am highly exaggerating by calling that bench in the back a rear seat haha)
