Don't think that the 92-00 civic had chips could be wrong but i cracked all the plastic of my 99dx key and no chip unless it's in the metal it's self. there was someone asking this some time ago conclusion was....no chips IIRC. im not sure when they started adding chips. plus my keys have seen may a magnet from droping them lol so that chip would be wiped clear had it had one in it. or are you looking for an aftermarket security key system. ?

 

Back in the day I remember seeing alarm systems that operated using a transponder. Look into those.
