quick horspower
im looking for ways to add horsepower to my hatch while staying in budget i was looking to do a y8 head swap to my y7 block. any sugestions on that or easy horsepower it be much appritiated??
x2^
best bang for buck HP wise is boost with the d-series don't waste time and money with bolt on's that will net you "maybe" 10-15 whp(IF THAT) at the end of the day.

turbo>supercharger afaik they don't even have them for the d-series. spray is temporary and you can only run so much before you risk the internals and it's not that cheap as far as hp to coast ratio.

Superchargers exist for the D, they're just hard to find. Regardless, parasitic loss makes them...kind of silly to use on the gutless D16. Spray is also illegal in most (if not all) states. A home made turbo setup can be done well for $1500-$2000, or an LS swap can be had for less than a grand.
im looking to spend no more then 1000 to start. and are u all sugesting not to do a head swap?? right now i have the idea of just haveing an all motor hatch untill i can gwet a full time job
Save your money til you plan out exactly what you want, then you can sell the single cam swapto use for something else. Unless you plan on boosting the single cam then no pint in keeping it or modifying it.
Next all motor d16 that I have seen have made a max of 180hp with a ton of work and dollars.
If u have a y7 dx. The best bang for you money is y8 head alone with intake manifold and injectors.
Then y8 trans and get a nice exhaust so it can breath out.
Don't bother doing a mini-me swap. You won't gain much, if anything. Saying a y8 head is the "best bang for your buck" is one of the more comical things I've read this week. For the cost of the complete head, you might gain 8 BHP and 3 TQ. If you have a grand to spend, save up another grand and boost it, or start piecing together a B swap.
It's not about (not) going faster now, it's about spending smart for the future. You'd be better off spending that grand on a 19T or GT28RS, manifold, and downpipe, then buying the other mission-critical pieces and parts when you have the money.

as mentioned already. do not go wasting money on a single cam , unless you are boosting. all motor is going to cost you an arm and a leg to get any real power out of it. you would never be happy either, knowing that you paid 10x more to have as much hp as a stock swap in some cases.

Personally, if I were you, i'd just swap to a good B-series engine. Keep it N/A until you Research and save for a turbo build for the B-series.
I just did new i/m, cai, tb and new gaskets. Along with new headers and exhaust. I regret it.
Boost or swap. No other way with a d. The cost is "to damn high" for what you get.
Ive got a y8.
