What is the best method for this..?? My EM1 panels are beat to ****, so I got a pair of panels in mint condition from an EX but they're light grey so there is a mismatch here.. Should I bring them somewhere and have them re-wrapped to match, or take the less expensive route and find a vinyl paint to match the doors and use that instead..?? This link is leading me towards painting them but just looking for some feedback before I get my hands dirty.. Thanks..

 

Reupholster them, dye them, or get the correct door cards. Reupholstering doors is actually fairly simple, as long as you have somewhere well ventilated to work.

 

How about just get the panels with the correct color code in the first place? It's not like they're rare or anything. The cost of getting them to match probably will not offset any savings you obtained by buying them in the first place.

I doubt you can get them to match what is original to the car.

I got these for $35 from my local U-Pull because it was the only power door panels they had, and luckily they are mint..! Don't you think if they had the ones I needed I would have gotten them instead and maybe in Tennessee they're not rare, but in Miami anything OEM and in good condition is very rare, not to mention the steal I got these for.. From what research I was able to gather apparently EM1's come with Type K - Classy Grey interior, so would any reupholstering place be able to order vinyl by using that color/code combo..?? Thanks for your response JBPNOMAN @ least it contained something that was actually helpful..

 

Come back and report how much it costs in materials, labor and time matching it all up vs. buying matching panels in the first place. Auto upholsterers aren't cheap by any means. And don't tell me you couldn't order these online or even score a set on Craigslit. A WTB ad in the Marketplace even. I've seen people score parts rarer than door panels by searching and being patient as well.

And I would safely venture that a local auto upholsterer should be able to tell you whether or not an auto upholsterer can match it up? But maybe auto upholsterers are rare in Miami.

 

Your name has always fit u well and again, you're wrong.. I've been looking on Craigslist, Honda-Classifieds, eBay, and in the local junk yards since January for a set of door panels that didn't need to be reupholstered and have since been out of luck.. On deployment in November I saw a pair in Japan but decided I'd wait til I got back to the states because it'd be cheaper perhaps.. Well since I've been home I've been SOL.. Sure I've seen pairs here and there, but they looked like *** and I'm not gonna replace my beat panels for slighter lesser beat panels, makes no sense... So after the $35 that I've spent, if I have to drop $100 on reupholstering or painting, I'm not concerned since the MINT panels I see online for sale anywhere start @ around $150 and up.. And I live in a more upper class area of Miami btw, where it's more Ferrari's and Bentley's opposed to most places (like TN for example) where it's mostly all older Honda's and Acura's with parts being so readily available, so these Auto Upholsterers are most likely not going to be very inexpensive... Hence why I asked about painting them instead, using the Dupli-Color method, so if you have nothing helpful to say (usually typical when you reply to my threads) please don't respond to my posts.. I'm looking for responses that are going to guide me in the proper direction, not make me wanna go throw 17 rounds at a red circle and some bottles on the fence.. Thanks..

 

Look. I get it. You scored them cheap.
Now. Let's look at this objectively shall we?
IF you can find a shop that can match the fabric you'll get charged an arm and a leg and far MORE than $100 I can guarantee you. Start thinking $200 and up. But since you live in an upscale neighborhood in Miami, unlike most places where other people live like TN, maybe that cost isn't a big deal. But if it was you wouldn't have needed to post and you wouldn't have needed to go to a Pick-N-Pull and scrounge.

Fat chance on finding DUPLICOLOR that matches. When you DO try and color match it chances are that you will more than likely fail and start looking for a way to match the rest of the panels. More money.

Your best bet is to just stick the door panels on and ignore the mismatch.

And I do KNOW FOR A FACT that you can score a mint set of panels online if you're patient because I did just that off of Ebay years back for the wife's hatch for $150. But that doesn't help you but it may for anyone thinking about attempting this, since it's for future readers finding this thread and not just YOU. So don't try and say it isn't helpful because all three of the people that responded to this thread suggested it or agreed with me.

Sorry this aint what you wanna hear but it's more likely an outcome given your scenario. Anyone else reading this should be aware of the realities they'll face trying to do this this.

Honest to God, I see ONE BAZILLION of these in my local junkyard all the time. Yes, in dark grey. A WTB ad is your friend. Paint is not. With shipping (even from ******* Canada) I'm sure it would be less than $150. Ask and ye shall receive.

 

Thanks for the more positive responses, I appreciate it.. And as far as the WTB ad's I've got three up and they've been up since before I returned home from deployment.. One guy wanted $200 for just the driver's panel, lol so I guess I've just been SOL lately.. I called a reupholstering place today and the guy mentioned to me that there are paints that flex and stretch that have very positive outcomes and they even use it sometimes in his shop.. He didn't give me a name but he said it's about $12 bucks a can so I guess that's just another route I could venture.. And as far as the junkyards go, I'm honestly not exaggerating when I say that down here (Miami - West Palm) any Honda you find in a U-Pull, Pick-n-Pay, etc has been severely molested.. Even the ones they get in on shipment days are already stripped because they're mostly stolen recoveries.. Guess I'll just have to keep an eye out, thanks for the feedback..

PS - If anyone has painted theirs or re-vinyled them, I'd love to hear the parts & process that you had taken..
