Default Transmission issues?

So I was driving my wifes 2000 Civic ex with auto tranny today and i noticed that the D4 indicator on the shift indicator on the cluster was blinking. I immedietly turned around and brought the car home. I ended up checking the tranny fluid and its fine. I dont know if i have a CEL because it was already on for a bad O2 sensor.

after about an hour i went back out and started the car and when i put the car in reverse or Drive4 it clunked really hard. I also had to move the car in the drive way and it seemed to be slipping.

Could this just be as simple as a bad shift solenoid cause the car to clunk into gears and then slip due to it not completly being in gear or would it be something else

Once your tranny starts slipping. It is usually an indication the the transmission is going out.

Im just wondering that if its not getting into gear fulling because either solenoid A or B isnt working properly or has completley stopped working then it obviously drive correctly?

On my 99 civic if i unplug the lockup solenoid (the on on top behind radiator) it will go into gear so hard you think its going to come apart. it also has no get up and go. like its slipping or stuck in a high gear and the torque converter cant go. Pull the D4 codes and report back. check this page on how to https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/how-pull-cel-d4-srs-abs-codes-code-lists-1901557/. your car is OBD2
