How to: Changing timing belt/water pump when engine is out
Hi guys,
i am about to swap in a B20B high compression into my 92 eg si.
Thing is the B20B is just sitting here, and i would like to get the timing belt/water pumps and some seals changed before the swap.
searched but couldnt' find much though
most DIYs are while engine is inside the engine bay.
is there some type of DIY guide line or something to follow??
Thank you guys~

it's just less crap to do with it out, if you cant figure out the difference with it in and out of the bay, you might want someone else to do it.
guys, sure it does
when the engine is out, you can't use the tranny in gear to stopped the shaft turning
which means i need something to jam the gears so it doesn't turn else i can't loose the bolt
any suggestions???
If you are talking about the 19mm on the pulley, they make a special tool that will hold it in place from turning while you are backing off the 19mm. My local parts store lets you "rent" one and then you get back all your monies when you return it.

I don't see the need for that tool. i just use a 1/2" drive air gun with a 19 impact. crank pulley will slip right off most of the time.
If the engine is out and you don't have a good impact gun pull the flywheel or flexplate off and drill a couple of holes in a piece of scrap flatstock so you can bolt it to the crank using a couple of flywheel bolts, screw in a bell housing bolt for it to jam up against.
The bigger problem is trying hold the engine itself still while putting all that leverage on the bolt.
Also, the crank pulley holder is pretty useless outside the car, it's meant to jam up on the frame rail.
