Engine cranks slowly, wants to start, then either starts or doesn't
So, I just recently bought this Honda Civic Cx Its a 1994, With a 1995 Honda Si Motor ( D16z6 ) if im not mistaken.
But my trouble (problem) is.. The car Slugs at the start (starts really slowly) it turns over like it wants to start, then either does or doesnt. if it doesnt start it it will turn, then just goes into a click.
The only reason im on here is ive exhausted other options.
Ive taken the car to autozone, and oreily for a battery test, altenator test, and starter test.. They say its none of those.
are they wrong.. is it possible its the starter? Or could something else be causing this problem?
Once the car is started it will drive until you shut it off. then it wont start back up.. unless it has sat for a few minutes (anywhere from 10mins-1hour)
I've been reading the honda forum for awhile now. and everyone seems to know what their doing way more than me. (im not the greatest car person)

That sounds exactly like a dead battery. Just because it's reading proper voltage doesn't mean it's supplying enough CCA to turn the motor over. Try replacing it. Worst case scenario, just return the battery.
bad battery not a good connection between your grounds.. loose connection on postive side .... short in starter signal... or could just be a bad starter...
i would check for good connections... then move on to a starter or battery

Well, Thats what i thought at first so i took the battery from the other cars in the drive way.. and it still slugged.. and sometimes never started..
im kinding leaning toward Starter for some strange reason.
But i dont wana buy something i dont need.

Cause i have the ground connected where the engine is grounded.
It could be the starter or your main relay.check the soldering joints on the back of the relay and see if they are cracked.if they are cracked just add a lil solder to it for a cheap fix or just buy another relay for 30 bucks
Ima check the main relay tomorrow and let you guys know, thanks.

I konw this sounds cheesy, but how solid/tight are your battery terminals? A little bit of corrosion in between the terminal and connection can severely reduce the conductivity even if the battery/starter/etc is good. I've made the mistake before and ended up with a spare battery lol. At least its newer and I sold the other to a friend.
Clean the terminals and cable ends very good(take them off and scrub corrosion off, don't short cut it) and make sure they're tight(if you can wiggle them by hand, that's not good enough of a connection). Someone else mentioned ground wires and would be my next target of cleaning.

Where they are connected might need some cleaning? They look fairly dirty but i was thinking nothing of it while doing the other stuff..
I'll clean everything up.. And give it ago.
Can anyone give me a good tip where to attach the ground cables from the battery..
The battery was originally in the back of the car and i moved it to the front thinking the extra long cables were adding drag to the start. But the drag still remains.
Currently the Ground is attached where the Engine is grounded.. Should i maybe find another spot for it?

You need a harness ground(should have one near thermostat inside harness)this goes to thermostat housing. Then is the obvious valvecover to core support(by radiator or a/c condenser). Last but def not least is the transmission to subframe(somewhere near trans mount). Negative terminal can go to this same bolt or one on subframe that's at least a bolt w/12mm or 14mm head on it.

go through and clean all your contact points for your grounds, making sure they are tight. Make sure you have a good connection from the battery to the starter.

if all of those check out, then it could very well be your starter.

I want one with all the labels.. Explaining what
G1,G2,G3 etc...
basically one explaining what all of em are.. I'm quite curious..
Google honda service manual. Find download button, highlight it, press enter...
Come on, you've never researched online? I doubt that's true. Pdf of course, put it on desktop.

i will go ahead and upload the 1300+ page manual for 92-95 civics and host the download for you if that helps.
Replaced the main relay, and ive got the manual.. had a brain fart that night.. when i woke up the next morning and read what i posted im like wtf was i thinking..
But yeah.. Im cleaning all the grounds today in the evening when its a little warmer..
Just bought a new relay the other one was fried..

OK. Here is what ive done and the problem still persist..
New Main Relay, Cleaned all the Grounds, Replaced a few cables.
Cleaned up where they connected and all.
went through and re-tightened all the connections.
I threw the battery on a charger and it hit a full charge and now it just clicks.. But however when it sits a little bit.. It will turn over (Slowly)
SO.. What do you guys think? I'm leaning toward Starter..
But it could also be a bad wire somewhere?

Bench test the starter. You can find a DIY explanation on youtube. Also, like I said earlier, just because it's putting out enough voltage to test good, it might not be putting out enough CCA.
I ordered a new one. Hopefully that will fix it.
