Default High Beam light in instrument cluster stays on

The high beam indicator light in the instrument cluster will not go off but the actual headlights on both hi and low beam function correctly. To be more specific, when the lights are in low beam, the indicator is rather dull but def on. When its in hi beam mode, the info actor is very bright.

I came across this thread and others are having the same prob
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/high-beam-icon-gauge-cluster-stays-2733608/

I just replaced my headlights and went from a 2 light per housing to a 1 light reg H4 housing set up (which I believe is the OEM set up as far as wiring is concerned.)

Whenever I disconnect either the high or low beam wire individually, the other beam wire works and indicator functions correctly. There are 2 grounds for each hi and low beam (diff grounding points according to wiring diagram) and i only have room on the H4 bulb for one ground. I tried using each grounds separately and stilm same result. Only thing i haven't tried (which is coming to me as i write this....lol) is to splice both grounds together than connect to H4.

Its a 98 CX btw

Any ideas?

Yes, some ideas: Is the wiring stock or has it been messed with? Does it have DRLs?

I had this same exact problem just a few weeks ago. Take the headlight switch out and clean it up with some q-tips and alcohol or electronics cleaner.

Nice!!! Ill give it a shot. The switch seemed like a possibility except for the fact that I just changed the headlights, which is why I was thinking wiring.

But now I've been thinking over it the last day, it makes sense because I went from a 2 bulb HL assembly to a 1 bulb. The any stray power could illuminate that indicator light which it appears its doing, being it's being dimly lit.

Thanks again!
