Default Newbie 97 civic sluggish take off.

Just bought myself a 97 civic with the 1.6l. I serviced it with oil change, air filter, plugs, distributor cap and rotor, and fuel filter. My problem is when I'm sitting at a dead stop my acceleration is very sluggish but pans out, seems to be somewhat of a delay in throttle response and it cuts out bad. What am I missing here?

Thanks, can I get to this by removing the valve cover? Also I noticed there was a small amount of oil on the plugs when I changed those. I know this can be fixed by putting new plug seals in but would this have an effect on my problem?

have take the covers off, and yes the valve cover, if you have oil in there, change the valve cover gasket while your at it.

Is there a certain process to do this? Sorry I'm just use to working on a jeep. These Hondas are a whole new beast to me! Thanks!
