ITR clutch behaviour - biting point knocking
Hi,
I'm posting this here, to see if you guys over the pond can help! I cant find much feedback in the UK for this.
I've put a low mileage motor and gearbox in my DC2-R a couple of years ago, with a brand new Honda clutch while it was out, and brand new Honda engine mounts all round.
Car has performed faultlessly for 2 years, and its done 12,000-13,000 miles since the motor and box were swapped in.
Last few weeks I've noticed that when driving the car at low speed/from standstill, its behaving strangely. When I pull the clutch to the biting point, there is a rattling/grinding/knocking noise, and I can feel the same feedback/knocking through the gear lever / gear ****.
I don't feel anything through the pedal, its only felt through the gear lever. It doesn't do this from cold, its only after the car is hot.
Does any one have any ideas, or has anyone experienced this before?
Thanks!
Gary

My Integra RS has literally the same problem. I just purchased a new clutch and flywheel and should be pulling it apart tomorrow. I will report back with whatever I find.
1. check around shiftlinkage
2. throw out bearing
3. crack pressure plate, or maybe lose bolt somewhere.
4. comes to worst! transmission.

Mine had a single knock at the point of engagment for a little while. Then it wouldn't downshift properly. Pulled it apart and it was a worn out countershaft bearing in the transmission. So I installed a full Syncrotech rebuild kit and it's brand new again. Transmissions can be funny things, hopefully your issue isn't as deep since it's low milage. I had 125k on mine.
Sorry for the late reply. My trans has a loose input shaft, not sure what the issue with it is. Mine knocks several times engaging in first or downshifting if I don't rev match. Probably the same issue with yours also. Hopefully mine holds out until I can find a decent B16 or ITR trans. Would rather not spend money on rebuilding the S80 unit.
sometimes the tabs that hold the springs on the clutch can bend or break, causing slop when engaging. my friend was having this issue. sold him a clutch disk I had lying around and it went away
