98 odyssey ignition switch???
Wife's van stranded her ion town when she could not turn key. First thought was steering wheel lock. Drove the 25 miles to her and that was not the problem. Key would not turn at all and steering wheel lock was not engaged. After about a hour of trying to turn key I turned my attention to ignition switch. Pulled column covers and looked for any obstruction....none. Tapped on key gently to maybe loosen up tumblers and the key finally moved but would not crank engine at all. Also, do not have and electrical at all except dome, headlights, brake lights and door chimes. Nothing else. And to top it all off I could not turn key back to the off position so that I could remove key. ARRRRRRRRR. Totally flustered andgot headache from all the research I have been doing online to no avail. Hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks guys.
We have a '95 Odyssey that was subject to a recent theft attempt. They busted up the ignition switch by hammering a screwdriver in and forcing the levers, but they didn't get the car. Not realising what had happened, I jumped in, put the key in the ignition and tried to turn it. It turned to position 1 then jammed - wouldn't turn further or come out of the barrel. So, I would suggest that the ignition barrel could be faulty... but the electrical issue indicates that there may also be a problem with the switch itself. If you can remove the switch from the bottom end of the ignition barrel/steering lock mechanism, you can operate the switch with any suitable tool (e.g. screwdriver) and see what you get.
the ignition switch is faulty you have to replace the whole unit, it happen to me while driving the car died pulled over and couldnt turn the key had to replace the whole ignition switch problem solved...
