Default .... cutting floor to access fuel pump ?

Q: Anyone try (or know of/seen pictures) of EF owners modifing chassis to be able to access fuel pump from topside such as in eg/ek/dc.

I'm tired of having to drop the tank just to service the fuel pump.
I think it would be easier just to cut a 5" hole in the floor/rear seat area.

Never seen it but thought about it myself. If I ever have to drop the tank again I will deff be doing this. make it like a trap door or just screw a cover over it.

Buddy of mine's HF is like this. He basically cut a whole in the floor, similar to a typical floor pump access panel in size. To cover it up, he just use a piece of sheet metal a big bigger than the hole, stamper the lip so it sat in there pretty good, and then just use a piece of sound deadener over top of it to make it quiet and noise free. Works good for him

How often are you accessing the fuel pump?

Why do you need to drop the tank multiple times? I put my walbro in and forgot about it

I also dont think dropping the tank is very hard or inconvenient, its very few hoses and 2 tank straps. I dont think its worth cutting your car at all, even if you have to drop the tank several times as your saying, it just doesnt take long enough to put my car under the knife

if I were to do such a thing, I'd prolly graft in a motorcycle gas cap type thingy... but no, I'd rather drop the tank

Exactly.

There is no reason you should need to be doing this often or a lot... like ever, no matter what you do to the car.

If your pumps are dying or causing problems I'd sort that instead of just making it easier to fix the result of the problem vs finding the cause.

My brotthers car has been sitting now for around 9 years. I would run it a little every summer, but last summer it would not start. Just tinkered around, the car starts with starting fluid but is not getting fule. Think the pumpo gummed and seized. I have the car for sale, and I do know it would run with new pumo. Car is prev salvage, and I am about to cut n access just to get the car running. Would make leaving the fule lines intact , for a car I am not keeping, it makes sense.

This is something that some Mustang owners do to change the fuel pump.

Or... at least my buddy did it to his V6 supercharged build.

Do you want to be a Mustang owner? Cuz that's how you become a Mustang owner.

I've thought about this too - when I had to drop the pump on my 91 si twice; once to replace pump with Walbro unit, then again to fix the sock sitting funny...

I decided that if I ever had to do it again, I was going to cut a hole in the chassis and modify the fuel tank to be like the dc chassis - along with welding in some baffling.

Later I decided that would also be a huge pain in the ***, so I would just get a fuel cell when the need arises - and save some weight.

did this to my 91 Si. had a leaky somewhere in the tank and ended up being right around that area for the fuel pump. i used a mini airsaw and just cut out a hole that looked like it would provide enough access to the pump for easy swapping. made one cut then put some small edge moulding around it and put back in place with a 4 screws right through the cut. once leak was repaired i never got in there again. made a template and handed it out to quite a few people, but some asshat borrowed it and never returned it or id send it over to you.

its too bad all the other 4th gens didn't have access like the wagon did. lift rear seat, pull back liner, swap pumps.

Might have something to do with this being an old thread that some dolt resurrected and Charlie's post was from 2013.
