California smog question for h22 swap
Ok, I got hit with a STAR required smog check
My DC header is carb legal, and I just put the stock airbox on. My problem I am having at the moment is checking to see if it has been at a ref station for the swap. Everything seems to be plugged in and I have no capped parts as far as I have seen.
I don't know if it has been transferred to OBD2 or if it even needs to be, nor do I know where the connection is. ( I don't know electrical at all) So what should I look for, and where can I locate it? If it is OBD1 and needs OBD2, does anyone know what needs to be replaced and how I can find out if it has been done already or not.
The only thing I know is that there should be 2 o2 sensors which I keep forgetting to check and will do after this post.
Everything is running fine, no CeL(it does work, been on before for other stuff) and looks like it should pass with flying colors.

Contrary to what people around the world may think, the users here at honda-tech don't know how to read minds, and therefore don't know exactly what kind of car and engine you have.
If it doesn't have the BAR sticker somewhere under the hood it hasn't been ref'ed. You can look at the ecu to find out if it's obd1 or not but I don't really see how it can not be obd1. Only an idiot would convert it to obd2. You only have one oxygen sensor. If you're lucky you will get a smog tester that doesn't know anything and worse case scenario he just tells you you need to BAR it.
Since the engine was offered for the car as obd1 as long as everything is plugged in and the ecu you have is for that engine you shouldnt have any problems. The bar sticker comes into play more if it was a japanese engine, or if it was a swap into a completely different chassis. I did work with a ref for a bit so I learned some stuff haha
Thanks Enzo. I have been hearing a lot of mixed stories. If I do end up having to take it to a ref, I'll just need to figure out what needs to be fixed. And if what you say is true...I can take it to a smog shop right now(was about to do that anyway haha).
I don't like how they changed their rules. Before you used to be able to get a temporary registration, now you HAVE to fail a smog and then pay $50 on top of your registration fee to get a 60 day moving permit. Well, off to the smog shop to probably waste money for nothing.

If the car was for an h22a1 then ya, you're good to go. It doesn't need to be ref'ed as it has a "Japanese direct replacement engine".
I thought your car was an SI or S model.

Pretty sure this one had an H23 when it was stock. I think it's an SH, but maybe even SI. Never paid attention, it's just my work car. Upside was I didn't waste money because the smog guy didn't charge me. Downside was that he couldn't even print anything out to show proof of failure. So if I can't convince the DMV to give me the 60 day TOP, I'll just PNO the Honda and get my Mustang back on the road. At least my drive isn't so bad that I won't mind using a little more gas.
I would just take it down and try to have it smogged. The worst that can happen is he says you have to BAR it. Just play dumb if he does lol
Just look at the vtec wiring. It should give you an indication if the car had it added or not since if the car originally had the h23a1 it woulda needed the vtec added in for the swap.

Well the wiring for the VTEC had to be added by the looks of the horrid wiring job. But I am going to have to PNO it for now. The brakes started grinding last night on the way to work and I can't afford to replace them at the moment. It'll be a couple weeks before I can really do anything about that, so I'll look into my options. Hell, maybe I'll sell it and get a bike. Summer is almost here.
