Default Price Check on Repairs. First time honda owner.

Hello everyone I am posting to find out if my mechanic is ripping me off on the prices he has offered me in order to fix some of the problems of my Honda. (1997 civic ex 2door)

Repair offers:
All 4 struts for $450
All rear wheel bushings for $280
Transmission rebuild $950 ( Not really necessary, just said i should do it if i plan to open it up because of weird noise right wheel makes on very sharp turns)

what i have had done:
Timing belt and water pump with oil change with filter $310
rear break pads replacements and drum maintenance(turning) plus window resocketing and reverse light fix for $200

I would appreciate a response as im new to the car owning world and don't wont to get robbed because of that. Thank you all for your time.

Prices are different all over the country. It doesn't help you to ask in a forum.

Take it to another shop or two and get estimates and compare.

$450 for new struts....depends on the brand he's replacing with.

Rear wheel bushings....ask him which one. There's wheel bearing, lower control arm bushing, etc...

$950 for a transmission rebuild....that's a ripoff. For that much, you get a used one in good working condition.

I would get a second quote from someone else. I'm sure there are plenty of Honda enthusiasts near you that can help you out with the things that need replacing. Of course, I'm not saying all of them know what they're doing just because they drive a Honda. A lot of them ghetto rig things and halfass their work, so be cautious of who works on your car.
