1999 CRV B20B eng. JERKY ACCELERATION
Hi I am a new member and desperate for help please. I have a 1999 CRV (B20B engine) and manual gearbox. I live 450km from nearest Honda Dealer. On starting and initial driving all is great. But if I drive about 20km, switch off, shop etc and then re-start after about 20 minutes, I have jerky acceleration - particularly in 2nd and 3rd gear. It feels very hesitant under hard acceleration and then suddenly kicks in and goes well. I have replaced the spark plugs, fitted a new fuel filter, and run on a tank of fuel with injector nozzle cleaner added, all to no avail.
It only happens once the engine is hot and under acceleration, which I find totally confusing. Please can someone give me some advice. The engine warning Management light does not come on. Many thanks, John

hmmmm what's your idle like when you let off and sit at a light after it bucks on you?
Mine would be erratic in my Dseries civic i was also getting a CEL. I've just been adjusting the idle for different temperatures for it. I know its not the best solution but it's a old 205mile beater with hail damage, missing mirror and clear coat falling off.
my guess is somethings happening thats telling the engine it's not getting the right mixture and it's causing your whole ride to buck. check vacuum leaks, check the IACV, is your coolant bled? i'd do all that before i go down the whole replacing parts route.
bleed your coolant first, there's youtube videos if your not certain. my roomates mini had hardly no coolant in it and and running hot, he thought just adding some to the reservoir tank would fix it (facepalm)

first, check for codes. regardless of an illuminated mil. always check codes first.
to me, this sounds ignition related. you'll want to use an HEI tester to stress test the ignition system. do this hot. it's probably a failing coil. your sysmptoms, when hot, are synonymous with the notorious b series distributor failures

I have a similar sounding issue.
Mine wont accelerate well between about 2000rpm-4200rpm. Before and after that it is fine. It is most noticeable in 2nd and 3rd gear at full throttle.
I have:
-Replaced Plugs
-Replaced Ignition leads
-Checked TPS
-Cleaned IACV
-Checked Timing
-Replaced O2 sensor (I knew it wasnt this but wanted to be sure)
Only thing I can think of is the coil, and adjust the valves

could try new rotor and cap also. i just did them only cost 30 bucks and its really easy to change.
or yes valves. i just had all my exhaust valves out of adjustment, once adjusted i ran fine again. its so weird with these cars, all the intake valves were dead nuts on and every single exhaust valve was tight.

have you bled the coolant system properly? air bubbles can cause an engine to run odd.
Coolant is bled fully
