1990 honda civic dx starting issue pleeease help
the fuel pump will not turn on. im aware about the common main relay problem and i have replaced it. i have replaced it and can hear the clicks now and have tested the fuel pump, its working also. i know i had a main relay problem because i would have intermittent starts. but now its different because it just wont start at all anymore, it cranks but wont start. the problem is the fuel pump wont start. any suggestions?? its sad to say but this rust bucket is my only transportation and i need help
check the fuse for the fuel pump, and then double check the connectors on the relay. Make sure they have good contact.
Next step would be to use a multimeter or test light to check for proper 12v or GROUND at all the necessary wires so you can find where the problem is. Atleast you are sure it is the fuel pump....no-start issues can take forever to solve if you have fuel but no-start. Relatively, you know your problem and just need to know why :D

thank you
i have a hunch it is somewhere in the wiring probably a ground somewhere because ive hit bumps before and sometimes the car wont start afterwards. but the problem is im not a mechanic lol so i dont know where to find the grounds or anything like that :/ is there a diagram somewhere maybe??

and also is there a correct diagram of where my fuel pump fuse is located?? it isnt the same thing as the main relay?? i have the hanes book to my car, buuttt nothing in the book is correct about my car. also i am missing quite a few fuses under my dash, dont know if that could be a problem though because its been like that since ive had it and it runs like that (when it runs)
yea i have it but its wrong. everything about my car is wrong lol. the layout of the cover is different and it even says i have a cd player and sunroof. which i dont. this car is really frustrating me but im putting the fuel pump back in today and testing the wires.
I had the same issue and it turned out to be the #14 fuse-alternator/Soleniod (10amp) under the dash. Once I installed a new fuse the fuel pump started right away.
The problem that I am having now is that the car will crank but will not start. I have a weak spark (orange & red spark), so purchased new wires and then check for spark and if that doesn't occur, it is off to Honda.
I hope this helped you and good luck

my '90 ted is having the same problem. when i turn my key to the IGN i hear all the clicks but not the fuel pump priming. i checked that #14 fuse and it looked fine. but just after checking the fuse it started right up. im still thinking about changing the fuel pump to be safe.

Check both the 15A hood ECU fuse 37 and 10A dash fuse 14. One may be blown. To learn the best way to test fuses, click the Test Fuses link in my signature.
Thank you guys
im not sure exactly what fixed it but what i did was replace the main relay, took my fuel pump out and made sure everything was good and tight, checked my fuses (one of them was lose ) and bam! she purs like a kitten now. it did die after idling for about 2 minutes but i think it was just air in the line. Havnt taken it for a spin yet because i ran into some problems getting my fuel tank back on but it seems to run good now. Again, thanks guys. it was electrical. Words of wisdom, i wouldnt drop the tank unless its absolutely necessary
