I have a 2003 Honda Accord EX-L V6. Occasionally, typically when cold, we get a raspy sound - almost like when you're clearing your throat. This sound is not always constant - it can cut in and out.

But when I hear this sound, I feel a momentary loss of power from the engine. No lights such as CEL are on. It seems like after the vehicle warms up, this issue dissipates or even disappears.

Does anyone have any idea just what this might be???

How many miles? Have you done a tune-up lately (i.e. changed spark plugs)? Won't hurt to first try a bottle of fuel injector cleaner before moving forward with more costly options.

The car has 130,000 miles. Have not done a tune-up in a while...but this issue seems to me to be something outside a normal tune-up.

Of curiosity to me is why it changes as the engine warms up - this to me seems be a clue.

The fact that it is not constant makes me think it is not something like the spark plugs...although that would be a simple fix if it was!

My '03 makes all kinds of funky sounds and hesitations until its warmed up.

The only thing that I know of that is "fixable" is if you have the power steering whine when cold, there is a 29 cent o-ring for that.

Now that you mention it, I do have the power steering whine. We just took it in a couple of weeks ago for the recall on the power steering hose and thought that would take care of it...still whines when cold.

Can you tell me where to get the details on the o-ring?

Still a little concerned about the issue in my OP...perhaps too concerned. Other than these items...we LOVE our '03 Accord!!
