Hello,

I currently drive a 2002 Honda Civic and have been using it for the last 6 years without any problems. This year around November the car stared to over heat on idle and the mechanic I took it to said it needs the thermostat replaced so I had it replaced and still the same problem continues.

After about 20 mins of regular driving when stopped at a red light the car over heats. When I rev the engine or when I start moving again the temperature returns to normal and it plays around within 1 to 2 points of normal operating temp. Again when I stop it over heats. Also when it over heats it blows out cold air when the heater settings are set to hottest.

I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with a similar problem before I take the car to another mechanic who advises me to change another part and charges $80 for removing 2 bolts.
