Post 03 Civix tapping noise

I replaced the timing belt and drive belts on my girlfriends civic today. Made sre the timing was right. Hand spun the crank a couple times and timing still looked good. When I started it it it was making a tapping/ticking noise from under the valve cover. It got louder as rpm's went up and the sound was hard to hear above 65ish mph. The car seems to run fine but may have a slight power loss. I also changed the oil on it and I think I put 1 quart to many in it. So what could cause this and how serious of an issue is it?

An extra quart of oil isn't great for the motor but I'd be incredibly surprised if you were able to hear any malicious noises because of it. Check the oil, if you have too much drain the excess.

Likewise, it could be spark knock...you could have a loose coil pack or spark plug. Check all your ignition sources and make sure they're secure.

Was the sound there prior? My Pontiac Grand prix needed new lifters, and tada.. No more 'ticking'

my 02 sedan makes a tapping noise, apparently its due to a gasket.

I didn't check the spark plugs but I'm pretty sure the coil packs are tight. As for the lifters, is that something that would show up after a timing belt replacement? and like what gasket would be leaking? And I just hope it isnt the timing belt cuz it seems to run just fine. but I really don't wanna tear it back down

The lifters aren't hydraulic on the D17's and shouldn't be making noise. I would double check the timing and make sure you're not a tooth off.

Check over anything you physically touched during the maintenance, as if it wasn't there before it is likely a result of something you did.

timing looked good. turns out I needed to adjust all the valves. they were pretty lose and I'm assuming it was there before I messed with anything so that's good. now that its all adjusted the car sounds normal again!
