Valve springs
I have a b18c1 in my 99 si and i'm planning to rebuild it with new pistons/rings and such, would it be okay to put in supertech valve springs in?Is running the stock cams with the supertech valve spring good for the engine? I plan to get a set of cams in the future and since i am taking the engine apart for the rebuild it would be a great time to put those in too.

stock steel retainers are fine to use. they are a bit stronger then the brittle titanium retainers. steel will bend before they break and titanium is a hard brittle metal that can crack.

same for the stock valves, little more forgiving a more maliable then aftermarkets that will just shear in a interference situation, as where stocks can just slightly bend, then re-seat themselves after time
the aftermarket retainers are not 100% needed... its just your choice if u want them. valve springs are a different story those are recomended and needed for any cam that is much bigger then stock. dual springs are the best and keep you from floating a valve when reving high. goodluck
if you going to change the springs go with the aftermarket ret. if you no want to use T.I. you can use crower steel or RSX T-S retainers. The mayor
of times a b series drop a valve is because the stock retainer snap in to pieces. I'm talking for my experince and my other friends turbo'ed cars.
