Default D16Y7 to a D15B non-VTEC?

HMO is telling me that the D15 non-VTEC is the same engine that is in my CDM 98 Civic Sedan, is this true? That sounds like a downgrade to me. I am trying to get the engine and transmission, I just dont want to get screwed trying to find a direct replacement for my car. I am on a tight budget and need to get both at a decent price. I am looking at HMO and JDM Engine Depot, and getting the same price from both...around $1200-$1500 shipped! If you guys know of any other places that are good, and have quality parts...let me know! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Why would they lie and how is that a downgrade? I have a JDM D15B in my hatch right now. Cost about a third of that shipped though without the transmission.

y7 = 106 chp 103 ft lbs
d15b = 103 chp 98 ft lbs

Hardly a "downgrade"....your butt dyno will feel nada

So, its better than the D16y7? I just want to make sure that I order something that is a direct replacement. I am going to do a full tune-up this weekend, change the oil, and change the transmission oil again. They said yesterday that it needs the BG Fuel System Treatment done as well. I am hoping that this will clear up some of this, what is your take on Lucas Oil Stabilizer?

It's the JDM replacement. No more. No less. And there will still be work that has to be done to get it running because it is a JDM engine. Don't know why you need the transmission if you already have one fro the Y7.

I am not 100% sure, but it is making a horrible howling noise in reverse. I took it to a local diagnostic center yesterday, and they confirmed that it was coming from the transmission in reverse. Thanks for clearing this up for me gumblemarc.

Does anyone in here recommend Lucas Oil Stabilizer, just want to see if I can smooth out the engine until I get the money to get the Engine and Transmission.

That JDM D15B is a really good motor..

Shouldn't be a whole lot of extra work if its an OBD2A like your car..

But your going to have to rig a few things...

Try craigslist bro ive bought motors before and haven't had a problem yet, but i dont want one. When u get that car fixed treat that single cam like a gser. Put full synthetic and pump 91while the car will love you back. That's how i treat my single cams.

If u do plan on getting you jdm engine use your old manifold and other parts that are nessary so itll be easy to plug everything back. I have a eg sedan and the old d15b2 had 326k on the motor but i replaced it with a d16y7 just to give the car a new heart.

91 in a stock single cam is a waste.

I was thinking last night, after reading a few of the threads on here, about doing a mini me swap. I can get all the parts locally here and rebuild them. Get a D16y7 block, y8 Head, ECU, Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifold/Downpipe, and other Misc items and just building a fresh Engine. My car is pushing 200k after all!

The local facebook page that I am on, one of the guys suggested the Z6 Transmission for that Engine setup. You guys think that would be a good choice?

jdmpeteek9...Craigslist here is pretty dry. Most people are trying to get rid of crap! I have seen the same crap get reposted over and over again in the last 2 months. I would like to see some good stuff pop up, but highly unlikely in my area.

If you want to learn how to fix an engine and get a better understanding of the components it is not a terrible choice, and yes the z6 trans will help out. If you are looking for big HP gains then it is a waste of time.

So doctorake, you think this is a good choice for a beginner? I have never messed with internals before, I plan on downloading the service manual for my car. I just want to make sure I do this one by the book, I dont want to mess it up. This has to be clean and done right. I hate my cars being hacked up, that is why I buy stock and do everything myself so I know it is right.

So wait, is the actual problem your transmission? If so just grab a z6 and see how you like that for now.

There is a noise coming from it in reverse, but I am having other issues as well from the engine...so it is all getting replaced. Instead of building a fresh y7, its just more "fun" to build something interesting to me.

Well, while I still have the D16y7 in my car. Can someone please tell me how to replace the Dizzy O-Ring! Is it just pull it out, swap the O-Ring, and bolt it back up? Or is there a certain way it has to be done?
