Icon2 B16A manifold question

Hi Honda-tech!

Need your help/advice. So here goes my build:
B16A Sir II
B16B camshafts + dual springs + retainers
Integra S80 short tranny
4-1 crappy e-bay exhaust manifold + 60mm straight exhaust
CAI
Chipped but not tuned P30 Ecu (will tune it next month)

Currently I'm running a stock P30 intake manifold but I have a P73 TypeR manifold. Did a lot of research to find that on stock B16A na engine P73 will loose power, same thing goes to B18/B20 - P30 is way better till 7.5K. BUT, I failed to find a comparison on semi-build engine like mine.

I'm building a car for drag racing, launch at 4K + I'm able to stay in VTEC all race. So the question is, have someone had the same of similar setup? Will a P73 manifold still be a waste of power or my setup can benefit from it?

Thank you all in advance.

Dyno it with stock B16 if it keeps making power way above 8k go P72 If not leave it as it is. That's my POV.

Thanx for the reply. I was thinking of the same solution. But a dyno run cost a lot here. It's like 100 usd

More comments/opinions are welcome!

you will have to talk with your tuner and dyno and get an offer for that i doubt youll pay that much.

get an aftermarket intake manifold. Skunk2,edlebrock performer x or victor x. there's other but those are the most common.

ANY aftermarket IM+TB combo will improve top end over stock by how much depends on what he has done.

Skunk2 is closely related to the p73...and the victor x has way to short over runners and too big of a plenum for a mildly worked b16. Victor x is better for turbo territory.

However, from what I've read and personally experienced...is that the performer x on a b16 is the best option. You are looking for something with longer runners. Still improves top end but makes midrange better over skunk2/p73.

With this setup nothing wrong with keeping the p30. Not much is done to the motor as of yet so even with the performer x you wont really see any high end difference.

a victorx would be terrible on a stock b16.

Ported p30 works awesome on mild b16s like this. Made less peak power than a p73 on my motor but felt much better on the street.

Well with the cash involved in porting a P30 you could get a PerfX ( Although i am porting mine instead of geting a Perf) . Sell the ITR Run the P30 till you get the cash and switch to the PerfX before tuning.

Victor x works great on my turbo 2 liter, it would be horrible for a n/a b series street engine.

Performer x seems to have great results. P73 and probably the blox/skunk copies don't really help out till around 8000 rpm over a p30. Aebs has had some issues with fitment that I remember reading about but it put up good results.

For your situation id try a port matched and cleaned up p30 manifold, followed by either aebs or performer x whichever u can get ur hands on. Let us know if u get dyno results so this thread can help out in the future when people search

Reason i suggested the S2 was it was a big step up from my GS-R mani.(aware we are talking about b16) depending what you plan on doing in the future it might be something to consider.

the stock p30 manifold is very hard to beat on a b16 up to nearly 7.5 to 8k rpm.
im 100 percent sure if you use a type r mani on this build youll loose power all the way up to 7.5k.
Maybe you gain a small hump around 4k because of the resonance.
Ported P30 works wonder on a B16.
i've never tried the performer X thou, should also be a good mani.

First of all thanx everyone for the opinions.

With the current setup and P73 manifold I got some fine results.
Here is a dyno chart:

Let me know what you think

This is good advice.

If you don't follow it, I predict a lot of Kleenex in your future.

If this is a drag race application isn't making power past 8000rpm what you want to do?

an all-gear pull would clear things up about what has to be done imho.
