Default wiring help blown fuses

Hey guys hope I can get some help with my demon car (1997 civic hx 5 speed)
A month ago I noticed my battery leaking from over heating . So I decided it was just old and replaced it with a new one.problem stayed the same battery heating up . So I went to get a new alternator (not installed ). While driving to work my car dies I hear a poof and smoke coming out of my gauge cluster . I tow the car home tey to turn it on it cranks but no go I check fuses notice the em fi fuse under the hood is blown I try to turn it on again instantly blows . So I go through every possible fuse find out 13 and 31 are blown and back up radio I replace them all i remove the main relay crank the car DOESNOT BLOW EMFI FUSE under the hood and begin looking for a short in the main relay connection . Than i disconnected everything that pertains to the main relay From what I can tell its the #5 connection that has a short yellow wire green line using an ohm meter. This is were I'm stuck any suggestions if one thing caused another ?

Sounds like a bad ground to me. One of the experts here might have a pretty good idea of where exactly that might be.

make sure all your grounds are tight and the connections are clean. if they are, take a look at the starter. you could have a short in it. test it.

I checked every ground ... so my guess now is the white with black stripe.
I'm so lost at this point. I'm wanting to just set fire to it
So what I know :
-car cranks over
-replaced fuse 13, 31, 44
-fuse#44 blows on ig2 right away
- if I remove main relay fuse doesn't bloe in any ignition position
- I unplugged ecu, main relay , injectors and ivac to test with ohm reader
-#5 on main relay plug shows infinity ob ig2
-#7 0n main relay plug shows infinty on all position
-all my fuses are new

check your starter.... just because you can get a crank doesn't mean that there is not a short inside it. test the starter.

you may very well get 10 more cranks out of it.
