Default Tune-up

I have a 1997 Accord Special Edition, 2.2 ltr. Son-in-law did tune-up Aug. 2012 using parts from Auto Zone, plug wires, distributor, etc. Check engine light came on last month and car acted like it was missing. Plug wires were loose, when moved, light went out. When I backed out of drive, it started missing again and check engine light came back on. Is it possible that like some fluids have to be Honda brand, that some parts also have to be Honda? Computer check showed that Cam Shaft sensor needed to be replaced -- but I was told by mechanic that they seldom if ever went out. So, is it possible that I'm getting a computer misreading from not using Honda brand parts on tune-up?

Spark plug wires could simply be bad. You don't need 'Honda' wires, but NGKs are preferred. If you live outside of Calif you can have your codes checked by the local autoparts store for a proper OBDII code. Or you can reach behind the glovebox door and jumper the two wire blue connector, and turn the key to ON(not start). You should be able to get a code from your check engine light.

you listed distributor, did you have the whole unit swapped out or tune up parts like cap, rotor, coil, ignitor? if you still have the original, put a fresh cap and rotor on it (even good quality ones should be cheap) and try it out. depending on your results (problems remain, problems gone) you can be a little more certain of what is causing the issue.

I'm with MAD_MIKE on the plug wires (and plugs for that matter) NGK are worth the price difference. the factory sets were NGK so if you think about it that way, you're getting a deal buying essentially "dealership" parts at a large discount.

If you purchased "Duralast" wires they definitely will pop off unlike NGK wires and your engine light will blink instead of being solid on. I would replace those first. I have seen that before. Also, check and see which spark plugs were installed. If not NGK, replace with NGK plugs. They are only like 2.50 each. Also, code said camshaft sensor? I have never seen a camshaft sensor on 90-2002 2.2L accords. Did he maybe say the Crankshaft sensor?
