So in the hopes of trying to find out what is going on with my tranny i find this! A rotted out sub frame, this is madness. There is no way i can fix this. Is Honda CRAZY? This car is 11 years old and has 90K on it! How does this even happen?

I might be lucky, there is no other rot or rust on that part of the sub frame and the metal underneath that is solid.

Yeah this is not typical, hundreds of people are stalking Honda for a recall because the drain tube for the AC is right the above the passenger side rear beam front sub frame. Its a manufacturing and design defect that is also a safety issue. The drives side is rust free.

Anyone ever fix this? Weld a plate on to it? Replace it?

What year? Model? 02? Can't forsee a Recall being issued for a car that old. lol

Personally if I were you, I would see if you could find a decent looking subframe from the junkyard, throw some herculiner on it, and just replace the whole thing. Or maybe see if you can reroute the drain/extend the drain to safe area.

I live in Minnesota, no inspections here. My car would far from pass in most states with inspections so I guess that's a good thing. I can't exactly see a new subframe being that expensive as long as you completely strip all the parts off of it that you won't be needed. Heck, go stick some bondo on it and paint it. Won't be able to tell visually, not saying I agree with doing things half ***. Just to get you past inspection till you can afford a new subframe. Good luck man.

What kind of inspection will it not pass ?

If you live in the snow, the salt usually does stuff like that.

Its not from the snow, its from the AC drain tube. And its NYS safety inspection. It wont pass i with that rust.

http://www.arfc.org/complaints/1999/...e/problem.aspx you can look up any year form 98 till 2002 all the same issues with rust only in that spot. There is no other rust on the frame of my car but there.

There are 7 applicable complaints including yours for the '02

6 for '98

As much as it may suck, I don't think that constitutes a recall man. And NY most certainly salts/chemicals the roads which would accelerate any type of rusting. There's a reason people avoid cars from the North-East.

*edit* And given the car is 11 years old (or older) now, I think they're going to brush it off.
