Default I hit a road dip at 50km/hr, now my exhaust is a lot louder.

Hi HT

Due to a poorly displayed DIP sign and being new to the area, i went over a dip in the road at about 50km/hr in my ITR, the car hit the road with so much force i thought the air bags were going to deploy, and to my surprise the bumper stayed on perfectly in tact.

Anyways, now under accleration - my exhaust is A LOT louder (Fujitsubo Power Getter with 4-2-1) and sounds like a tractor, i have also felt a loss in power @ low RPM

I jacked the car up the best i could and could see scrape marks and a few dents consistant through the lower points of the exhaust (header, cat, resonator and muffler) but i cant see ANY holes. Is there a chance a part of the exhaust system could be partially dislodged from any of the joining bolts causing it to be a lot louder? The car idles fine and is only louder under accleration. If there were holes (tiny ones that maybe i cant detect) wouldnt it affect the idle of the car?

Just getting an idea before it goes on the hoist next week at my local mechanic and possibly having to fork out money for a new exhaust system.

Thanks

I beleive it sound louder due to leaks.looks like it is the best time for a new exhaust system.

exhaust has condensation
you will see water drips from exhaust leaks after the car sits in the parking spot for some time

sounds like you might have cracket some welds before catalytic which will make your O2 read incorrectly and lose power.
when mine cracked i couldnt even get up the hill to drive it to my apartments.
were you speeding?
if not then you can try take the city or construction crew to court to reimburse you for it.
i know these fools can leave the road where a truck has to slow down to 10 mph to get through so i dont feel bad for getting money for somethign that is not my fault. we pay taxes for road maintenance and its their job to keep the road hazard free.(unless you on a private road then its different) we have so many potholes here its ridiculous. and they dont do anything untill someon complains.

Nope i wasnt speeding. I went back to the scene before i call the council because i was sure there was no dip sign. After going back, there was a sign but it was hiding behind a tree.

BAsically similar kind of thing happened to my brother and it didnt hold up in court.

take a picture showing the sign is obstructed from view but quickly becasue they will move it and your argument becomes invalid

I have hit a hole before and I also could not find any holes on the exhaust , when I put it up on the lift I noticed that the flange where the axle back and mid section of the exhaust meets was bent out of shape and all the exhaust leak was coming from there , I just hit it with a hammer and kinda red happens it used 2 gaskets and it was fine after that . Hope this helps

Same thing happened to me a few years back - I hit a dip and had to replace my whole exhaust. Sucked cause I had gotten a new one 3 months prior so shelling out another $1300 was not fun.
