d16a6 noise
today i was driving to work and i noticed a metal ticking type noise that would happen around 2-3k rpms i also seem to be leaking oil and have black smoke followed by blue smoke, i feel like its valve seals or something along those lines but figured id ask more qualified folks there thoughts so any thoughts as to the cause of this?
The black smoke is from running rich, the blue is from burning oil. But you probably know that.
I believe there is a methed to figuring out whether its the valve guides or the rings. something like if the smoke is on start up its the valve guides, and smoking under load is the rings or vice versa.
Sorry I cant be more specific hopefully someone else can chime in and clarify.

Do a compression check to give you an idea if you have big problems in the cylinders.
Do a leak down test to see where the failures are.
Remove the head from the block to verify the diagnosis.

i looked before work and could see what appeared to be oil leaking front the cam gear side of the motor and the smoke is underload, i will compression test it this weekendand see
Cam gear leak just makes the engine messy and the iterior of the car smell bad sometimes.
PCV failure can cause smoking under load and is fairly easy to remove and check... or just replace it.
Rings can sometimes get stuck in place especially if the engine isn't maintained properly. Might consider sea-foaming in this case.
Can you get somebody to follow you when you drive to see if it's really only smoking under load rather than smoking all the time?

Remove it and make sure its clean and un-clogged. I believe its just a one way valve, so you should be able to blow through it one way but not the other.
The manual says at idle, to pinch the hose leading to the PCV and make sure it clicks. if it doesn't, replace it and re-check.
