Added some marvel mystery oil to my oil and gas Monday evening car ran terrible all day yesterday it idled up and down when sitting still , and surged when driving along at a low rpm , is this normal ?

 

thought maybe it was bad gas but it still doing it after I filled up today

why did you need to add it in the first place?

 

Its surging when driving along around 2000 -2500rpm and at idle the rpms go up and down like it wants to cut off

 

So why did we add this stuff in the first place? You refuse to say. Chances are it's just coincidental.

 

Because ive never ran any kind of cleaners through it since ive had it and ive put 50,000 miles in it . Thought maybe it would help

 

Forgot to mention i adjusted the valves the day before i added it

I set them at 7 on intake 9 exhaust with engine hot is that correct

That must've been a shitty job trying to do it while it's still hot. lol.

 

That's your problem - never adjust valve lash when the engine is still hot

 

I didnt know . The motor wasn't HOT i let it sit about 20mins before i done it . So the engine needs to be Completely cold with 7 on the intake and 9 on exhaust right ?

 

yep has to be cold. take the valve cover off and let it sit there for at leas 2 hours depending on how hot or cold it is outside.

Went back over them it idled rough rpms bounce d up and down i drove it a few miles got it hot it cleared up some just idles low?

 

Sounds its like its "camming " im so irritated what is wrong with this thing

 

Take it to a professional to adjust them before something bad happens

 

Found out your suppose to turn the crank 180degrees each time i was only tuning it a 1/4 turn . No wonder its off

OMG... youre lucky you didnt bend or burn any valves. Yes, you need to adjust the lash with the valve completely closed. This is typically understood and shouldnt need to be mentioned.

Next time, leave it to the professionals.
