Default What is this bit called?

After having reverse gear problems on my accord type r U2Q7 gearbox i thought id open it and have a look. Ive not got any experience but it seems straight forward enough. It looks like the brass splined ring the teeth have become quite worn and its really hard for the selector to move the gears over it. I dont know what its called or where i can order a new one? Can anyone help? Im in the UK so a UK supplier would be best. Thanks

Nearly finished..........

Reverse synchro.

Your bigger problem is a scratched up hub and sleeve though. (the hub is directly below the brass snychro, and the sleeve slides over the hub)

Cheers for the quick reply... I do have another gearbox from a 1.8l accord which was taken from a low milage type r (the guy didnt know when i bought it) Do u think its possible to just change the differenials as that seems fairly easy. I started a thread a few topics down. Thanks!

That would be a lot more work considering you have to shim the diff, which isn't so bad if you're using enclosed ball bearings, but with the tapered roller bearings you're dealing with it involves some special tools.

I would pull everything apart and look at the rest of the transmission, clean everything up really well and order parts as needed. Synchrotech or Gearspeed can get you what you need for parts as long as they ship overseas (I'm pretty sure they do)

Hi, i tried fitting the diff to that box last night and your right it didnt quite rotate freely, it seems to be catching on the webbing on the casing. As shimming a tapered bearing looks difficult i have been thinking about 2 options.

1. Dremeling the casing so the diff spins freely, it only needs a few mm i think.

2. Using the original casing, but putting the gears from my new box inside.

Do you think any of these options would work? Either that or i rebuild the new box with fixed diff, which seems a waste as the type r was ment for LSD.

Cheers

Even if you demel the case you're still going to need to shim the diff, Even they were identical transmissions you'd need to shim. There are small variances from transmission to transmission.

If you swap gears you'll need to swap the mainshaft as well (unless you don't swap 1st and 2nd gear) and then you'll need to shim the mainshaft, which again requires special tools.

Chers for the info again. Looks like ill put the non-lsd GB back together for now then...Might recon the old gearbox in the future. How easy is the gearbox to remove with the engine still in the car?
