1993 honda civic, D15B7 16V efi, 5 speed. Replaced badly blown head gas-ket. Pretty sure I dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's. Replaced radiator, cap, and thermostat. I think all air is out of cooling system. A high idle condi-tion is almost under control. Cold engine ign. timing was advanced about the right amount. After engine warmed up, I couldn't see the timing marks any-more. I finally found them on the bottom of the pulley, pointing straight at the ground. I have never removed the pulley. I am going to check for a sheared key. Any and all questions and comments are welcomed. Thanks for your time and patience.

 

Hope you had the head resurfaced, it only takes .002- .003 of warp for most honda heads to be out of tolerance and blow the gasket again. Might as well replace water pump while you mess with timing belt. Possibly t/belt too...
If you put crank to tdc, then put the cam in position. Tighten timing belt back up and turn it over(counter-clockwise) a couple of times by hand listening/feeling for valve to piston contact.

 

I had the head shaved and a valve job done. I probably should have gotten the deck shaved, but it was within tolerances. The valve timing has been checked 4 times and its on the money.

 

Ya, maybe a sheared key or insulator rubber on pulley is bad, allowing outside of pulley to rotate. Have you checked the distributor- has slightly off center fingers that go into cam. I've heard its possible to 180 it, but you really have to jam it in there. Sure your plug wires are in right order/ timing light on plug next to timing belt?

 

Yeah the wires are all in order. Timing light's on #1. I will hook up another timing light. The crank pulley still needs a look also. I'll post results. Thanks for help.
