fuel pump or fuel pump relay?
so ive been having a problem with my car. the problem is that sometimes when i try to start it, it wont turn over. (most of the time it starts) i figured out the "hammering" technique and i do that until i hear the pump turn on then she starts up. recently the car shuts off while im driving and i gotta pull over and hammer that **** until thepump turns on again. for example today i was on the highway doing 65mph and bam it shut off wtf. im guessing the pump is dieing or is it the relay? i doubt the realy because i can hear it click on when im hammering the pump. any comments? i dont want to replace the pump and the car shuts off again...
If you've never replaced the main relay, then it's probably due. You can get em from rockauto for $30 or so. They call them different names and show up in different categories. Just do a little searching and remember to search for "rockauto coupon code" before you buy.
Normally when the main relay goes bad, when it heats up the car will die but after a few minutes when the solder in the relay has cooled down the car will start again fine. What could be happening is when you supposedly hammer the fuel pump to fix the problem it's giving the relay time to cool down and the car will start again. Banging on the fuel pump is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. lol

yeah you don' need a main relay. you need a pump if it was the main relay you would have to be hitting your dash like i do when my car shuts off. if you got to hit the fuel pump then its your fuel pump. i bought my accord a couple of days ago and i found a receipt for a fuel pump i guess they thought it was the fuel pump hahaha its only the main relay. ive been driving accords for the past 4 years.
Yes and no. Yes because my car turns on. No because sometimes it shuts off and when it does turn off it takes a couple of tries to get it back on. Today I just put in a new fuel pump relay and the car shut off =/ I have a pump, just waiting to install it one day. My friend says I have an electrical problem but I doubt it buuut he has waaaay more years of experience than I do so I dunno. I'll update next time
