2000 R Factory immobilizer replacement
Long story short, thieves got into my car, and took apart my original ecu (2000 ITR) and took out the factory Immobilizer. the car is now constantly getting a CEL. I have a couple of questions. Please keep in mind that i do need to pass the OBD2 smog in california.
1. if i find a used R ecu, would i need the VIN of the car that the ecu came from for the dealership to reprogram it for my keys?
2. can i use a USDM obd2a ecu from the '98s and connect it to my car with the obd2b to obd2a conversion harness and get all the monitors working to pass smog?
thanks guys .. any suggestions or advice will be appreciated... also if u guys have an USDM ecu from sale, please PM me.

Get an original p73-a04 ecu, you can find it for around $150, and take it to the dealership and they can reprogram it for you for around $80. You don't need the vin from the vehicle it came from, etc, they use a scan tool.
Without giving too much info, basically the R was parked on the sidewalk of a very busy street. Police cars were present, and plenty of traffic, and people jogging by. They managed to get in the car while it was completely stock. They broke the club, clutch lock, ignition, disabled the alarm, unmounted the ecu and broke the immobilizer off. I'm pretty sure they were ready to drive off. I am unsure of what stopped them, but they rushed off apparently because when i got to the car, all the tools used to bypass everything were sitting on my seat. I obviously have upgraded security since then, and im sure im one of the luckier R owners.
i'd imagine finding a usdm ecu wont be easy.. luckily i found one on ebay from a legit seller. i hope the dealership wont require the vin of the ecu's car. ive reading reading alot on it... seems some say its needed, and some say its not

You have another option. If the ECU Board is okay but the immobilizer is damaged you can simply bypass it all together.
You need one of these:

and good soldering skills. Much cheaper then replacing the ECU. Or you can pay to have someone do it for you:

Alright, get a new or used ecu, get a new blank master key programmed key cut for your car then have the ecu programmed with the new key. You will not need the vin from the ecu.
new programmed key from Acura $tealer$hip prices (probably $100+ easy)
The immobilizer bypass chip above is $35 + shipping + time to install
