02 Civic EX Problems
I am new here and would first like to say this is a great forum with some good information and what looks like some good people to go along with that information and I am happy to be a part of it. I would also like to thank everyone for taking the time to read my thread and help me find a solution to my problem. I have an 02 civic with modifications and as of right now i work so much that I just don't have the time to diagnose my issue and would like some opinions from members who would undoubtedly know more than myself. The issue I am having is the occasional high rpm/no acceleration, loud grinding noise coming from what appears to be the clutch or transmission. Just a few days ago everything was fine until I had a direct short from my battery to my the body of the car in the trunk causing the battery to ignite and burn a bit until i put it out. Since then I have been having the issue i mentioned above, this youtube video sounds exactly like the sounds i hear and it happens just as he explains it.

A question for those who are more experienced than I, is it possible for electrolysis to occur and possibly destroy one of my sensors such as the maf, tps, etc or possibly flow so hard it burned up a bearing in the transmission. I am an electrician and to my understanding dc power takes the least path of resistance and therefore should only shock/heat up the location in which direct contact is made, so i doubt it could be the reason. I myself am leaning towards the input shaft bearing being no good or possible sensor failure leading to my problem. Apologies for such a long post and thanks in advance.

Judging by your description of the events you experienced, I would say you've got an alternator that needs replacement. I would take it to an AutoZone, PepBoys, Advanced Auto Parts, Napa, etc... and have the alternator tested (should be a free test). If your car took a shock, you'd be more then likely experiencing an electrical issue (not a throw-out bearing issue, as the guy in the video is having).

so that noise could be the alternator, would it also have something to do with the noise happening during acceleration and when letting the clutch out ?
i really need to narrow this down to the least amount of possibilities as i can.

well it seems obvious that the transmission need to come out and be inspected for problems, bearings that are bad, etc.
all i know is i need this fixed because my woman is tired of driving me to work and back.
appreciate it fellas.
