Average price on Timing belt from the dealer?
I called the
dealer yesterday and asked how much it would be for a timing belt water pump change along with a valve adjustment, they told me the timing belt and water pump alone would be 700$+120 for the valve adjustment,I told them its alot of money,he said come by on Sat and we can maybe give you a discount, now thats alot of money, what have you guys paid for this work?

il tell a piece of advice...if u know someone who has done this before just give them half and have them take care of all that belt and valve adjustment...the advantage of this is not only that u save money but u also learn something new to urself...
1 of my good friends works on cars, but he's not the sharpest nife in the draw if you know what I mean, and with somthing like a timing belt I'm not sure if I want him to do it,if he screws up thats my motor.
I called 4 dealers.. 3 were $525-$550 for timing and accessory belts, water pump and tensioner.. one was $410.. extra $80 for valve adjustment.. the place for $410 has a 10% coupon on their website.. I think that's a fair price..
well when i took my 98 GSR to the dealer for the timing belt, it turned into a nightmare. i didn't have enough money for the water pump so i just got the belts. Cost me $227. but then, problem arose. when replacing the valve cover the forgot one of the spark plug seals, so i had a cylinder full of oil. after that was taken care of, about 1-3 weeks later one morning i went to turn on my car and heard CLANK, CLUNK, BRRRRUNNNG. i was like ****** A!. opened the hood and found my A/C pulley off the block and caught in a belt. towed it to the dealer and found out the bolt holding the pulley snapped and was still inside the bracket. they told me that it was normal wear and tear and that they wouldn't cover any of it. so i found someone else to fix it for about a 1/3 of the cost. then started calling the dealer to talk to the GM and service manager. got the usual run around. finally after at least a month they refunded me the moey i paid for the new pulley and did a complete detail free of charge.
Sorry for the LONG story but just wanted to warn you.
and for anyone in So Cal, STAY AWAY from Acura of RIVERSIDE!

i thought the dealer is the most reliable place to take the car...i had the same problem once with parents honda accord...they charge me for water pump but they didnt even replace it...i found out like 6 months later when it started to leak...with the dealership they try to go as quick as possible so they can start a new job...however this tend coz a lot of problems for customer. Timing belt is a quick job that u can easily do...u really need some time to do that...its hard to believe how dealership fail to fix the car when this is something they do everyday...dumbasseessss....

I will tell you this! Make absolutely certain you trust the shop doing the work on your car. I lost the water pump on my integra and decided to have the timing belt replaced with the pump in one shot. Well I didn't do my homework and ended up having to have the timing belt replaced again due to the complete incompetence of the original shop. This will **** you off and never mind the worrying you are going to do thinking about what else they might have screwed up while they were monkeying around with your car.
I agree, timing belt in an interference motor is a big issue, you can destroy the head, thats why I'm a little nervous about having this done.
It's too bad that the dealerships make such a killing when replacing a timing belt. My mechanic changed my timing belt AND installed my AEM cam gear on my old Civic EX for 130 bucks... there should be more guys like that around. He does excellent work, has been an ASE certified mechanic for 20-something years...
I paid $650 timing belt service + $80 for the valve adjustment. The timing belt service included timing belt replacement, replacement of all other belts (ac, alternator, waterpump, etc), and and a new water pump. This was at St. Louis Acura.
my friend took her integra into the local dealer for the timing belt to be done (her car had like 90K)... her bill came out to be over $1,000 that day.... they did her timing belt, and water pump, etc for about $500... then they told her since her car had 90K sumthing it needed the major 90K (30K interval maintenance) which was another $390 or so.... then they also did her front brakes (not sure if it was just pads.. or pads and rotors) for another $175 or something liek that... w/ tax and everything.. total bill was over $1K...
they gave her a loaner auto LS for the day.. and they took an entire day.. she dropped the car off at like 8AM and picked it up at night/evening after work when they called...

She should have told them NO to the "scheduled matinence" and just got the timing belt service done. NO is a good word. Get exactly what you want and tell them where to put that $175 dollar brake job.
I don't think its such a bad idea to have the dealer do the timing belt service though. They work on Integras everyday and the timing belt is something you don't want to mess with. Bent valves are not a good thing. There are some things better left to the pros. Some of you are pros, some of you are not. I'm not.

haha too late..she just got whatever they suggested to be done.... she lives in TX and I live in CA.. otherwise I could have done the work for the cost of parts and probably would have taken approx the same time (I only have hand tools vs the dealers shop tools, lift, etc)...
