Default EXPERIENCED engine builders...what clearances are u guys running??

JE 9:1 comp. pistons with stock sleeves, stock bore B18C...what piston-to-wall clearances are u guys running for 300-400WHP applications? JE recommends .0040, but I wanted to know if i should go slightly looser or what...thnx guys...

Do exactly what JE recommends for your application. Too loose and you will be burning oil in 1000 miles..too tight and you will soon lose compression with piston black death.

always follow the piston specs given to you.

Could you explain what this is?

how do you control your piston to wall clearance??

the way you control is based on your bore of the motor. you usually need ot bore the motor to the spec of the piston. Some builders do it the opposite whihc in my opinion is ***.. You should never bore just a plain block with out having the piston with you.

That is way you can keep your piston to wall clearance in spec. Alwlays do the correct hone job with a good stone also helps the rings seat faster thereby no blowby

Basically if there is not enough room for the piston to expand because of heat, the piston skirt will expand against the cyl wall. Too much heat is built up and soon the aluminum will blacken and distort. Once out of shape, you will loose sealing (compression) and it will begin to suck oil.
