Default Hesitation when accelerating

Alright guys, I am running out of ideas. I have a D16a6. New spark plugs and wires, head gasket, coolant temp sensor, EACV, and a few other small replacements. The car runs and has good power, but every time I push the gas it stutters and jerks for a second then accelerates fairly good. I need to figure out what parts actually cause something like that so I can check and replace. I suspect the dizzy or tps, but I'm not sure. Money is limited, so this is a rough time to have an issue.

Try checking/setting the ignition timing (don't forget to disable electronic ignition advance).
Also check TPS.

How far advanced or retarded would the dizzy have to be to cause that issue? I have access to a timing light, just gotta wait a few days. after 200k miles, tps is still the original.

If the tps and timing are set, working, and calibrated correctly, check connections inside the distributor cap. make sure they are clean and tight. If you have the service manual, check the ICM and ignitor while you have the cap off.

My problem was 40% throttle = "instant stall" or atleast heavy hesitation (and sometimes code 15). Something I cleaned inside the dist cap cleared it right up.

Speaking of codes, have you checked for codes? Just pull up the passenger floor carpet and count the blinks (while the check engine light is "tripped")

I looked in the dizzy to see if it was dirty, everything seemed cleaned. but I'm getting another good dizzy from a friend just to eliminate it as an issue.

Stupid but check to make sure your throttle cable doesn't have any slack either.

I will check cable, and adjust if necessary.

my tps reads out of spec, but functioning properly. I will calibrate it soon, but I doubt that it's the issue. The dizzy I was getting from a friend is actually the wrong one. So no replacement yet. Also, no codes.

The tps will give you the hesitation, they can be replaced.

It still gives a smooth change in voltage throughout the throttle range. I am hoping to keep using it if I can get it in spec

wonky ignition coils have caused misfires under load for me before. Check that your spark plugs aren't gapped too wide... they can open up over time. Also, I've had oil leaking into my spark plug wells that would cause misfires if they filled up too much. Pulling the plugs and letting the oil drain and closing the gap back into spec would help with that car.

good luck

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I suspect a vacuum leak on my throttle body. I can hear air pulling through, which would explain why it only does it at the initial acceleration and is perfect after I am on the gas. I ordered a new throttle body gasket and will install it friday. Also I found a coolant leak on a hose that goes to the EACV. the clamp was off, rookie mistake on my part. I will pull the hose, clean it up, and put the clamp back on tomorrow. Maybe throw some Hondabond on it for safety. I will post an update on Friday.
