b16 all motor.. ideas to gain hp??
i recently built a b16 hi compression all motor... tuned at churches made 198hp. 91 oct. seems i have room for more.. looking for ideas on what to switch up. looking for serious input. i have alot to learn.
engine specs:
head b16 bowl matched and light porting
68mm throtlebody port matched
stainless dished valves. springs retainers
upgraded LMAs.
skunk2 pro 1 cams degreed
itr intake
98 jdm itr exhaust manifold
3in exhuast
b16a block
eagle rods
11:1 je pistons
96+oil pump
jdm b16 trans with quaf lsd
running s300 in a ef hatch.
suggestions on what my week points are that are holding back hp?

Complent that high comp engine with a better header, ex PLM big tube tri-y, or other meant for high comp builds. Could mill the head a bit ? since you're running pro 1's get some adjustible cam gears you'll squize out a bit more HP. Aftermarket intake manifold is a good idea also w/port matched 70mm TB. better intake as well with v-stack. looks nice btw !
forgot to add i have cam gears.. yea i was think the stock b18c5 exhaust would be an upgrade for a 1.6 il try a different intake setup first.. maybe im expecting too much from a b16?
thanks for the input
thanks for the input
The header and intake manifold+intake are going to hold you back the most,(as they're still oem parts) that being said the best gain I notced was when I put a S2:im+70mm TB on my B18C1 way more top end.
I,H,E,IM,TB,Head milled,S2:T2's,chipped p28.<---94 GSR

keep the intake/tb its not your bottleneck. Get a Toda Header (toda, plm, tegiwa etc) , Move your Breatherbox out of the way and get longer 3"ID Bend with a 3"Vstack. More Compression would be nice HG/Milling but only you know your p2v. Where did it peak with the pro1's ? what FD ?
hp peak?? about 8,400rpms it just kinda stayed at that till 9,500. yea the pistons stuck out the deck .015 and the head isnt fly cut so i had to run a .051 cometic to keep the outer rim of the piston from hittin the edge of the chamber on the head. thanks for the realistic input! v stack is something i should have done anyways and il source a header and go from ther
8400 peak on b16 seems kinda low and i can't see what bottlenecking it. as you stated get the header first and then try retarding cam timing a bit you might gain a few ponies up there.
Please post your dyno chart. Would be intressting.
How are the cams degreed ? To stock skunk 2 specs or did you
Degree it on the dyno ?
Are the 198 whp or flywheel horsepower ??
Because 198whp at 8400rpm sounds pretty high.
Forget about changing intake manifold and throttlebody,
Because going any bigger, you will loose alot of bottom end power.
First thing i would do is a custom lentgh tuned 3" intake arm
With vstack.
And go for a toda header or a plm replica. Proven to make good power.

i degread the cams during assembly to sk2 camcard but the dyno liked them alil more advanced.
the 3rd pull was best at 198 everything else we tried it wasnt liking as much
this dyno was the last pull with intake being retarded 2 degrees as we were searching for what it liked.we tried quit a few settings and i think he pulled off befor redline now that i remember as he knew it wasnt in a possative shift. that was our last pull. i reset the intake +2 and he reset the timing to what it was befor as well. but he printed the last pull instead of the best pull by mistake.

i agea with it being churches..hub dyno. its not about what one dyno said over another. its a tool to dial in your tune. simply looking for ideas to improve apon. most parts were used simply caus thats what i had on hand. not that i think they would best suit the build. im sure things need to be changed. i appriciat the knowledge and input!
