Default high powered b16 setups

I'm looking for info/feedback on who's had success in the past with b16 bottom ends and going fast. Looking for 700+hp setups. I know it's not all that common but I feel like it's been done, especially in the earlier years so maybe some of the old timers can shed some light.

Here's what I have so far. Turbo is a bw s400 67mm on a brms forward facing mani, intercooler will be air to air. 83mm b16, aebs sleeved and o-ringed block, ross 8.5:1 pistons and pauter rods. Head is stock port b16 with full rev valvetrain. Cams are still b16 at the moment but will more than likely be changed to an itr cam at the least. I'm using Neptune and the car will most likely be tuned on e98.

I agree its low. I bought the motor already built and didn't really do my homework before hand. Otherwise I'd have started with a gsr bottom end. Thankfully I got the motor for a really good deal. I don't see any reason I can't make up for the lack of compression with boost though.

My old setup was 84mm b16 ge sleeve with 10:1 je pistons. Port and polish Jg head with skunk2 stage 1 cams. Had bw s372 turbo with full race top mount divided manifold. Made 650whp at around 25 psi of boost. The biggest problem I was having was getting the turbo to spool. turbo wasn't full boosting until 7000rpm and I was shifting out at 10.5k. My best time was 11.1@135 shifting easy. I sold the motor to my friend who ran a 10.5 in the 1/4 with a full race ramhorn stage 2 kit making about 500whp. The smaller turbo spool much faster so he had a better powerband that I did. Good luck with your setup!

That's my biggest concern. My 67 should spool a bit quicker than an s372 but I know it will still be laggy, especially with my compression.

my 84mm b16 cp 10.1 comp stock b16 ports,skunk2 pro2's (way to much cam) old *** precision 4067bb 32psi made 750 pretty easy. car had well over 800+ in it if it didnt go lean on the first pass. did run a pb of 10.40 at 148 letting off at the 1000ft cause the motor went flat.

I have a b16 81mm bottom end, 9.5:1 pistons, stock port head, ITR cams, made 615@ 24PSI with 6265. Maxed out the fuel pump there. Adding another fuel pump and should be well over 700 @ 35PSI

755 on a 62mm is nice. I'll be tuning on a Mustang dyno so I figure if it does 700whp it should run pretty good. 500whp on that dyno was good for 140 mph traps in a 2800+lb car.

I think cr is too low.

Look at swapit's dyno sheet and details on evans-tuning dyno library. I think hes using 6765.

I'm sure It would do better with higher compression but with this turbo at 40psi, it should make up for it. Assuming it will make that much boost.

We tried the sx400w/1.10 on my buddies b16 and it had really no power band and going down the track it was gonna just keep falling out of boost at each gear change so we put a 6766 on it and what a difference it was..I think that turbo is just made for bigger stroke motors to compete in a lower class if wanted.

That sucks to hear. I've been a precision guy for the past 6 years so that was my original plan but after a buddy put the s400 on his neon I decided to give it a try as well. It spooled way better on his car than either of us really expected, so that gave me a little hope. I know it's two totally different motors but like I said, I expected it to be much laggier on his car as well. If worse comes to worse I can always buy another turbo. How high was your friend revving his and do you remember where it was seeing 30+psi?

There is a local car with an 84mm b16 that just cracked over 700 here. I dont know how much boost but and what turbo but it's not nearly as big as an s400sx

Down in NC where you are from, Howard from RLZ used to run a B16. Went mid 9's on it years ago. Not exactly sure of the power it made, but he ran a turbo B16 for awhile in his hatchback.

Yeah I know about Howard using a b16 back in the day. I'm from Lexington. About 40 minutes from Concord.
