nasty cat rattle.....and NO it's not the heat shield!
my cat was rattling and i didn't have the springs that go on the front part of the cat where it connects with the header...so i got some and installed them...but the thing still rattles. looked at it some more and what's actually doing the rattling is the rear side of the cat where it connects up with the rest of the exhaust piping. the diameter of the pipe on the *** end of the cat looks to be (maybe) slightly smaller than the diameter of the rest of the following exhaust piping...so the cat vibrates up and down where it's supposed to meet with the cat-back piping. tried to beak the bolts loose at that connection point..but they're rusted/fused together. anyone else ever had a similar problem? or know what i should do about it? ....besides buying a new cat...
or it could be that soft metal gasket (i dont know the real name) that goes betwwen them, may have baked. that will also cause a rattle. this happened to me.
is the rear of the cat flanged or do you just have the outlet welded to the rest of the pipe?

ok i have pics now. this is the area that i am talking about. see where the pipe that comes out of the cat meets up with the rest of the exhaust piping....where the arrow is pointing. see the space there...you can't see ALL the space that is there...but you can get an idea. what do you guys think happened? think the "soft metal gasket" went crappy on me?
and here's the same thing from another angle....
