Default torque converter issue?

I have a 99 ex 4cylinder v-tec with 159k that i had purchased a couple months ago.

There isn't any issue with downshifts or upshifts.

But, when coming to a stop from any speed there is a lurch or bump in the trans when it downshifts into 1st.

When accelerating from a dead stop after the "bump", everything is fine.

But if you do a rolling start where you haven't stopped completely and the "bump" hasn't occurred and then give it gas to go, then it seems like it slips since it didn't shift into first.

I am sure i can just live with this characteristic, but is there something i can do besides getting a new torque converter?

I had a simular problem with my 2000! but it wasn't torque converter it was the shift solenoid, not shifting down until fully stopped, then clunking in to first! I got my first gear solenoid replaced and have been fine since!

Sweet, i'll have to look into that. Do you remember how much it may have cost? Did you do it yourself or have someone else do it?

If these are shift solenoids B and C they go for about $40 each. They can be replaced individually. There are also clutch pressure solenoids and lock up solenoids; their prices are much higher, around 200 to 250.

When my trans is acting up I also get this "clunk" when coming to a full stop, it's like it doesn't want to shift back down to 1st gear. Although whenever this happens I also get the rough shifting everywhere from 1-2, 2-3 and upwards.

Is there a way to read any codes for this? There aren't any check engine lights that are coming on.
What can i do to test it?

Try to obtain a copy of the Haynes manual. There are procedures in there that show how to test the solenoids for ohms using a multimeter.

Like mister two said the solenoids are cheap! Mine was $56 after tax! Ya the clutch pressure solenoid is not reasonable I had to replace second gear clutch pressure solenoid I was lucky to find good used one and that still costed me 185 before tax!
