I just swapped my motor in and when I turn the key the car does not want to start and their is a loud squealing noise coming from the starter/ trans area...does anyone know what this could be ?

I'd say check the tension on all you'r belts just incase even tho you say tranny side never hurts. why it won't start shouldn't be related to the screeching

 

i have the starter held on by the bottom bolt only and just have an incorrect size bolt at the top of the starter could it be cause by the stater being loose and no properly being alined with the flywheel ?

 

That could do it get the correct bolts and give it another try.

 

UPDATE: I got all the right bolts for the stater and have fuel, air, and spark in the car but the engine wont start. the car turns over but nothing happens just cranking, it feels like the car wants to start but can't. I was told that the timing might be off so I planned to get the 1st cylinder to TDC then remove the distributor n make sure the rotor is pointing to the sparkplug wire #1...do you guys think this will help ?
