Default Car overheated please help

Ok so a few months ago my car overheated in the rain. I would have fixed this then but I had to spend so much money for tow/impound fees and the only reason it needed towed anywhere was because the battery was dead. Anyways basically the night it overheated it was raining so I couldn't see anything. I'm not sure if it's a hose or a water pump problem or what. There was coolant in multiple places when I checked and there is still some residue from some of it. But I can't actually tell where it came from and I've never worked on this part of a car before. The reservoir has plenty of coolant in it so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Check for coolant pressure and bubbles in the coolant

Ok so here's the thing. I don't know how to check pressure but I did check for bubbles. I didn't see any bubbles but I found a slight amount of mold. It's like growing in there or something and I haven't touched the car for about 2-3 months. Maybe a little longer but I'm pretty sure that's the general amount of time it was sitting there. I'm guessing that I should flush it, but I've no clue how to do that.

Get some hg type2. Then run the car with radiator off and defroster on high. Add coolant to radiator as need. Sound like you might have air in the system. Then run till you have good heat. Also to check for pressure just grab the upper radiator hose after its warmed up with the cap on.

I googled hg type2 and it came up with a lot of stuff on diabetes =/ I'm pretty sure that's not what you were referring to. Hope I'm not bugging you too much.

What you are claiming is "mold" might be silicate deposits from antifreeze.

I'm not sure I can't do anything with it right now since I can't borrow a jack from anyone. It looks exactly like mold does but I'm not going to touch it. It looks a bit hairy so I figured it was mold. Growing on top.

it would be nice if this thread started in the pertinent thread of cooling system issues..

..just sayin...

also. just flush your coolant system a few times with a radiator flush liquid. then run water through it to clean it out until you notice that there is no more mold going through the system. then fill the entire system back up with honda coolant. done deal. done. dude.

Ahhh I'm so sorry. I was tired when I made this and just thought it would go here. I should have looked for the cooling system thread.

Check your radiator fan too. I had a similar problem during a heavy downpour and found out that my radiator fan malfunctioned. Had it replaced the following day.

It wasn't the fan I had my bro come over and look at it and we found out what the problem was. It was a hose that was only partially on. We put the clamp on the best we could but it's a real piece of crap. It wasn't even that heavy of a downpour but the wind must have been strong enough along with the rain to push it off with all of the other factors that would normally cause a hose to pop off. Probably replacing that clamp soon it really does suck. The fans come on as soon as the car starts almost every time and I'm not sure if that's supposed to happen. Probably not but I don't plan to keep the car for much longer than a year. Plan to sell it before it needs smogged. On the bright side the check engine light went off.
