Default Improper battery connection. Might have caused a blown fuse?

Ok so my battery died and I went to get another one. I started hooking it up and the cables didn't reach so I just turned it around. They reached. Unfortunately it was the wrong connections that reached and I seemed to have screwed something else up. Although at first it wouldn't fit my cousin decided to hammer the end on that didn't fit =/ anyways I was told that I probably blew some fuses and/or a relay and possibly the alternator. A few other people said I could have completely screwed up the electrical system but the majority said relay/fuses. I have a feeling it's the relay and possibly some fuses but I have no idea how to test a relay and I can't even get the dam thing to come out. I don't think I should just yank the relay out. The Civic is a 2003 Honda Civic EX. I have located all of the fuses/relays so any help on how to take them out and test them would be nice. Thanks for all the reply's in advance.

Check the 80A fuse in the fusebox under your hood. You might have fried it.

How do I check it? It's like screwed on or something. I've never delt with anything on cars other than changing the fluids and changing the breaks. I've never even changed a battery other than this time

Its the big fuse in the front of the fuse box. You should be able to see inside the fuse itself to see if it is blown.

It looks like the one in the center of the photo here, just left of the finger:

Ok I checked it and it looks split. I compared it to the 40 and the 40 isn't split so I'm assuming that it's the 80 causing the problems. Thank you so much I really hope this is it. Also I forgot to ask if you know how I should go about replacing it. I'm assuming I unscrew it but I don't want to mess anything else up. Thanks again.

Make sure to disconnect the battery, then proceed by unscrewing the fuse. Its rather simple to replace.
