Default Steering Rack Leaks after sitting - then stops?

Victim is the 2000 Integra I recently picked up for my kid.

Car sat for almost five months before I bought it. First in the paint shop, then in the guy's garage. Drove the thing from MD to VA and parked it. Drove it a day or so later to my buddy's shop to have him put it on the lift so we could check it out. Turns out the steering rack was leaking from the driver's side rack boot. Boot is not torn.

So we all figured the rack was toast. Fair enough, I added it to the list. No pops or grinds or noise from the rack (the passenger wheel bearing makes a nice roar on the highway though...bearings for both sides are on the way).

So I pull it in my garage and do the timing belt, water pump, valve adjustment etc etc. A bit of power steering fluid collects on the garage floor as it sits there for a couple of days.

After I finish the work I top off the power steering fluid with some Prestone Honda / Acura fluid..it was low but not near empty.

So I drive the car to work (@40 miles a day) every day this week. Pulling it in the garage every night to work on various things.

Noticed last night, as I was cleaning and adjusting the power window on the driver's side, I noticed there isn't ANY power steering fluid on my garage floor. From the leak we saw on the lift, it damn sure would leak enough to leave something on the floor.

Checked the fluid today - still where it was when I filled it.

So have any of you ever seen this from a rack? Maybe it sat and the seals dried out enough to start leaking once it started driving, then sealed back up as it started getting used?

Just wondering. Was going to order the rack today. I'm tempted to go to my buddy's shop again tomorrow and put in on the lift and see if it's still leaking - at least verify before I drop the cash on a new rack.
