Post need help with a/c!!!

1998 honda civic lx automatic transmission
So when I first start my car the ac lines freeze up and so does the top of the compressor, I need to know what is causing this, the car doesn't run funny at all when this happens. The ac works fine up until I drive on the highway for 10+ minutes. Then its like no air will come through vents , it will shoot out frost

i googled this and found this quote from honda-tech

Since the expansion valve is stuck open the high side never has a chance to build enough pressure to reach the cut off threshold which keeps the compressor running continously.

I've noticed too when I'm driving you can hear coming from the glove box area almost sounds like "ice cracking" but i'll have to check that expansion valve out! Do you know if I'll have to release the ac refrigerant to replace it?

I recommend you bring it to a A/C specialist. They'll drain the freon and capture it in a tank. Replace the expansion valve than refill and check the balance of the system. They'll work fast enough that the drier won't get contaminated and you won't have to replace it. They'll also save you the cost of replacing all that freon. They'll also be able to pull a vacuum on the system with their equipment and verify everything is good. Also you don't want to risk contaminating the compressor they're about $400 to replace.

They might charge about $100 if it's just the expansion valve.

Yeah I know, the only problem is that the only shop in my town that was an ac shop, the owner past away from cancer

But as far as parts go I've currently got:
New compressor* the last one "blew up"
New condenser
New drier

Thanks for the response and knowledge!

If a little bit of moisture/humidity gets in your system it can ruin those new parts.

I'd take a ride to the next town.
