another stupid old honda resto-mod project
Hi guys! I'm new to honda-tech but I have owned hondas for about 13 years now. I just scooped this up for $200.00 It is a 1991 DX, 2 owner with 400k on the ticker and a burned valve.
I have not cemented my plans for it yet, but I will keep this thread updated if there is any interest in my project. I am open to suggestions/reccomendations on parts and mods etc.
some quick exterior shots before its first bath

It is original, the condition is pretty good considering age and mileage. I think it will shine up nicely with a little work. I just gave it a quick scrub down, hopefully I will have some time this week to work on getting the gloss back.
being a DX and as clean as it is, personally I would convert it to OBD1 MPFI and run a D16Z6 from a 92-95 civic Si, extremely reliable, direct fit, just do the little bit of wiring it you would never know it was not stock, aside from the Vtec calve cover and non-DPFI.
would be a very nice and clean DD that has a little oomph in it too.

do these consoles bolt right in? im sure not exactly bolt right up because they're obviously made for a diff. model car but do they look oem once in the EF. do they look out of place with the rest of the interior in any way?
I wish mine looked like this...i have a banged up body, but with a D15B vtec swap (bought it with swap) I would just swap engines
out if I had your car and for $200 its a steal!!!

Started some cleanup ...
The mats look as if they have never been taken out

No saving this one. 400k of heel rubbing

My helper...he found some dirt to roll in

Some of the screws are pretty tight

Time to vacuum

I rubbed a small spot on the fender to see if I can save this chalky paint... I think it might be ok..

I took the lazy man's way out with my prior '87 and current '90 cleaning: Go to the car wash and use the spray wand
on the inside of the car, hose down entire interior of car with radio/glove box removed. Then use a coffee mug to bail
out the pond, finish up with a large fluffy terry towel and stomp your feet around the floor. Two small weeper holes in
the floor would eliminate the bailing though. Then park in the hot sun for 3 days with windows open and let dry out.
Mine is 283k. 43 highway w/O2 sensor disconnected. I am currently having alternator issues and trying to get the old
Mitsubishi out for a regulator swap. The tranny was swapped 4 yrs. and the timing last year, 2 cylinders LOW on
compression, probably due to the prior belt jumping. Starts easy though. Been cross country with it 3x now since '08.

I did a little work on the exterior today. The paint was VERY chalky, so I played with the buffer a little..
Sorry the pics suck, but all i have is an Iphone and a garage with terrible lighting.

after weeks of looking on ebay, part suppliers, and unanswered pm's on honda-tech, I got the part I needed to fix my driver seat. It only cost me 35 bucks!
this was the problem

GROSS!

new part installed

now to try my hand with a needle and... oops, all out of thread... how about fishing line

Well, it doesnt look great, but maybe it will last until I can get to the upholstery shop

Car looks great, and you're taking care of it well! Don't use that integra center console, I think it fits like a$$ and it doesn't look crisp at all in an 88-91 civic.
thanks guys! My springs have arrived and my wheels/tires should be in friday. I'll have my muffler welded this afternoon. I went oem with exhaust until I decide on a swap or a more definite build direction.
