I have a 2002 Honda Civic with a 5-speed transmission.
Recently, my fifth gear went out.
I have been weighing my options and one is putting D16 transmission on.

I have read that the transmission will bolt up but a few things have to change.
Does anyone know what all will need to be changed?

D17 is cable shifted, d16's have steel linkage rods attached to shifter. Get a d17 tranny.

 

It bolts up to the block, but you can't use it. It uses a completely different style shift linkage.

 

But I cannot find one for under $600 and i could possibly take everything off of a d16 civic at a junkyard for around $350 depending on what i needed.

 

The price is really irrelevant here. That transmission just doesn't work in that car.
