Icon2 head swap?

Im new at this honda stuff so please bear with me. im more of a deisel and 1000hp small block guy myself but the gas mileage aint there. i bought a 03 honda civc that apperantly had an engine or head swap done at one point in time. It had a code for vtec soliniod and engine was acting like a rev limiter at 4000 rpms. I removed the soliniod to find their was no ports in the head for oil passages. I then determined the obveous and relized their had bn some changing. The block numbers are d17a1. can i just put a vtec head on and be done with it?, if so waat all do i need to do? the head looks new so im assuming its just a head swap? please help or im guna burn this thing. cant stand the rev limiter. thanks guys. p.s these things are way cheaper and eiser to work on than my duramax, way eaiser!

Well, if its throwing a code for a VTEC solenoid on a non-VTEC engine (which the D17A1 is)... there's some foul play going on here. Is the car an EX model?
